Frontignan
Frontignan (; ) is a commune in the Hérault department in southern France. Frontignan is renowned for its AOC wine, the Muscat de Frontignan, a sweet wine made solely from the Muscat grape variety. Geography Frontignan is located in the Languedoc coastal plain between the towns of Sète and Montpellier. The town is surrounded by the Gardiole hills to the north, the Ingril lagoon in the east, the Étang de Thau to the west and the Mediterranean shore (including the beach resort Frontignan-Plage) to the south. Mèze
Mèze (; oc, Mesa; phn, Mansa) is a commune in the Hérault department in southern France. Its inhabitants are called ''Mézois''. Geography Situated on the étang de Thau, Mèze shares with Bouzigues its historic role as the oyster capital of the area. Almost a third of its inhabitants depend on the fishing industry for their livelihood. In recent years, tourism and transport have become increasingly central to the local economy. History An important port since Phoenician times, Mèze has always primarily been a fishing town. During the Roman Empire, the town lay on the main Southern route from Italy to Spain - the 'Via Domitia'. Marseillan (; oc, Massilhan) is a commune in the Hérault department in southern France. As of , the population of Marseillan is . The port of Marseillan is a protected heritage site, and the altar and organ in the church are also listed. There has been virtually no new building in the heart of the village since the 17th century, and many of the houses date to the 12th century. History There is dispute as to who exactly founded the village. Marseille claims that honour, largely due to the similarity between the names of the two towns. But both names are derived from the Greco-Phoenician Massaliotes who extended trading routes from the eastern Mediterranean. The Massaliotes certainly founded Marseille around 600 BC and, shortly after, Agde. Thus, Agde is said to be the second oldest town in France. The foundation of Marseillan, however, is less clear. Gigean (; oc, Gijan) is a commune in the Hérault ''département'' in Occitanie in southern France. Geography Gigean is bordered by the Étang de Thau to its west, the Gardiole hills to its south and by a wine growing plain, which runs from the Moure Hills to the edge of Montpellier.
