São Lourenço is a ''freguesia'' (civil parish) of Cape Verde. It covers the northern part of the municipality of São Filipe, on the island of Fogo. The parish has an area of 96 km². It is also a religious parish, its religious celebration is on August 10, day of Saint Lawrence. Administrative Divisions Of Cabo Verde
The territory of Cape Verde is divided into 22 ''concelhos'' (municipalities), and subdivided into 32 ''freguesias'' (equivalent to civil parish). In Portuguese language usage, there are two words to distinguish the territory and the administrative organ. Administratively, right below the government, there are the ''municípios'' (municipalities), who administrate the ''concelhos''. Therefore, the ''concelhos'' are the first-level administrative subdivision in Cape Verde. Each municipality has an ''Assembleia Municipal'' (municipal assembly, the legislative body) and a ''Câmara Municipal'' (municipal chamber, the executive body). Henrique Teixeira De Sousa
Henrique Teixeira de Sousa (September 19, 1919 in São Lourenço on the island of Fogo – March 3, 2006) was a doctor and author from Cape Verde. Biography Teixeira de Sousa graduated in 1945 in Lisbon with a degree in Medicine, having attended in the following year the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Porto. He later specialized in nutrition and initially went to East Timor to work as a doctor there. Teixeira de Sousa settled on his natal island of Fogo the following year, where he had an important role in maintaining minimal structures of public health. Later on, he worked on the island of São Vicente, until he emigrated shortly before the independence of the archipelago from Portugal, and moved to Oeiras, Portugal, where he lived until his death in 2006. Teixeira de Sousa wrote fiction, including novels, and was a pupil of Baltasar Lopes da Silva. He was a member of the Claridoso Movement, associated with the ''Claridade'' magazine. The Instituto Nacional de Estatística (Portuguese for the ''National Statistics Institute'', abbreviated as INE) is the public statistics institute of Cape Verde. Its current president is Osvaldo Rui Monteiro dos Reis Borges. The population censuses are held every first year of a decade; the most recent was in 2010.
