São Lourenço, Macau
São Lourenço is a civil parish ( pt, freguesia) of Macau. It is located in the southwestern of Macau Peninsula and named after Lawrence of Rome. This parish was one of five in the former Municipality of Macau, one of Macau's two municipalities that were abolished on 31 December 2001 by Law No. 17/2001, following the 1999 transfer of sovereignty over Macau from Portugal to China. While their administrative functions have since been removed, these parishes are still retained nominally. It was surrounded by water on all sides except north and Southeast. It neighbours Freguesia da Sé. Penha Hill and () are to the south. The Portuguese governor building and current administrative buildings are located here. Parishes Of Macau
By the end of Portuguese rule, Macau was administratively divided into two municipalities ( pt, concelhos) and seven civil parishes ( pt, freguesias). Parishes were administrative subdivisions of the municipalities. After the 1999 handover to China, parishes are still officially recognized divisions but for symbolic reasons only. Parishes were formerly administrative divisions falling under the former two municipalities of Macau: Macau and Ilhas. Following the 1999 transfer of sovereignty over Macau from Portugal to China, these municipalities were formally abolished on 31 December 2001 by Law No. 17/2001. While their administrative functions have since been removed, these parishes are still retained nominally. Mandarin's House
The Mandarin's House (; pt, 1=Casa do Mandarim) is a historic residential complex in São Lourenço, Macau. It was the residence and family home of the late Qing theoretician and reformist Zheng Guanying (1842–1921). He completed his masterpiece ''Shengshi Weiyan'' (''Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity'') in the house. The Mandarin's House occupies an area of and is among the largest family houses in Macau. History The Mandarin's House was built in 1869 (eighth year of the reign of the Tongzhi Emperor) by Zheng Guanyin's father Zheng Wenrui. Zheng Guanying and his brothers gradually enlarged the complex since. It was built largely in Cantonese style but is noted for its fusion of western architectural elements. In 1990s, the Zheng family gradually moved out and the house was then rented out. There were at once more than 300 tenants living inside the complex, resulting in poor living conditions. Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal
The Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal (; pt, Terminal Marítimo de Passageiros do Porto Interior) is a passenger pier in São Lourenço, Macau, China. The ferry terminal is dedicated for ferries to the nearby Wanzai, Zhuhai. History The former Yutong pier was part of the Ponte 16 project. The no. 14 pier was demolished and the new terminal at no. 11A was built to replace it. In order to reduce high speed ferries' influence on the other harbour users, the Macau - Shekou and Macau - Jiangmen services were moved to Taipa Ferry Terminal from 24 September 2009 and 29 January 2010 respectively. Today the terminal only provide one cross-harbour service between Macau and Zhuhai. In 2016, the Wanzai Port closed in order to undergo a general upgrading of its facilities. Our Lady Of Penha Chapel, Macau
The Our Lady of Penha Chapel (; pt, Capela de Nossa Senhora da Penha) is a church in Penha Hill, São Lourenço, Macau, China. History The land where the church stands was donated by the Senate of the Augustinians for the construction of the church, which was dedicated to the Our Lady of Penha of France. The church was then constructed in 1622 and became the property of the Augustinians until 1834 when they were expelled from Macau. In 1837, the church was reconstructed along with the Bishop residence next to it. In 1935, it was then again completely rebuilt. Architecture At the front courtyard of the church stands the Our Lady of Lourdes statue. At the steps of the hillside staircase exists the picturesque grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.
