Syrian Drama TV
Syrian Drama TV ( ar, قناة سورية دراما) is a government owned television station based in Damascus, Syria since 20 August 2009. Syrian Drama TV broadcast was stopped on Eutelsat Hot Bird, Hot Bird 13 East on 22 October 2012. Its goal was to support Arab television drama#Syria, Syrian drama after the great successes it achieved in the Arab world and to shed light on issues of Syrian society in particular and the Arab community in general. It is focused on social, cultural, economic, political and life issues for the Syrian and Arab citizens. An Arab television drama or Arab soap opera (also known as musalsal ( ar, مسلسل), plural musalsalat ( ar, مسلسلات)) is a television form of melodramatic serialized fiction. The musalsalat are similar in style to Latin American telenovelas. They are often historical epics about Islamic figures or love stories involving class conflict and intrigue. The word ''musalsal'' literally means "chained, continuous". During the evenings of the month of Ramadan, after the Iftar meal is eaten to break the day's fast, families across much of the Arab world watch these special dramas on television. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) ( ar, الوكالة العربية السورية للأنباء (سانا), ) is a Syrian state-controlled news agency, linked to the country's ministry of information. It was established in June 1965. Website SANA launched its website in 1997. Up until November 2012, SANA's website was hosted in Dallas, Texas, by the United States company SoftLayer. Due to sanctions related to the Syrian Civil War, which make this hosting illegal, the SoftLayer company was obliged to terminate its hosting responsibilities with SANA. Hot Bird (also styled HOTBIRD) is a group of satellites operated by Eutelsat, located at 13 °E over the equator ( orbital position) and with a transmitting footprint over Asia, Europe, North Africa, Americas and the Middle East. Only digital radio and television channels are transmitted by the Hot Bird constellation, both free-to-air and encrypted. In addition there are a few interactive and IP services. The General Organization of Radio and TV ( ar, الهيئة العامة للإذاعة والتلفزيون), also known as from French ''Organisation de la Radio et la Télévision Arabe Syrienne '' (in short ORTAS), is the state and public broadcaster in Syria and reports to the Ministry of Information.
