''Synkronized'' is the fourth studio album released by English funk and acid jazz band Jamiroquai. It was released on 8 June 1999 on Work Group in the United States, and on 14 June 1999 in the United Kingdom under S2 Records. While the group recorded the album, bassist Stuart Zender left Jamiroquai, and Nick Fyffe was hired as a replacement. The album contains funk, acid jazz and disco elements. The album reached number one in the UK Albums Chart and number 28 in the US ''Billboard 200''. The UK version of the album includes the bonus track "Deeper Underground", which was released as a single the previous year and became Jamiroquai's only number-one single in the UK. Jamiroquai
Jamiroquai () are an English funk and acid jazz band from London. Formed in 1992, they are fronted by vocalist Jay Kay, and were prominent in the London-based funk and acid jazz movement of the 1990s. They built on their acid jazz sound in their early releases and later drew from rock, disco, electronic and Latin music genres. Lyrically, the group has addressed social and environmental justice. Kay has remained as the only original member through several line-up changes. The band made their debut under Acid Jazz Records but subsequently found mainstream success under Sony. While under this label, three of their albums have charted at number one in the UK, including ''Emergency on Planet Earth'' (1993), ''Synkronized'' (1999) and ''A Funk Odyssey'' (2001). Canned Heat (song)
"Canned Heat" is the second single from British funk and acid jazz band Jamiroquai's fourth studio album, ''Synkronized'' (1999). Released on 24 May 1999, it was their second number-one single on the US Dance Club Songs chart and peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart. The music video was directed by Jonas Åkerlund. The song is used in the film ''Napoleon Dynamite'' as the music of the title character's famous dance performance before a high-school assembly. Release Over the numerous releases of the "Canned Heat" single, two B-sides exist. "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" is a funky instrumental that features an intro of two drum beats that lasts about 1.5 seconds and then enters a strongly bass-driven, repetitive melody (which is very reminiscent of "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees). "King for a Day" is the fourth single from British funk and acid jazz band Jamiroquai's fourth studio album, ''Synkronized'' (1999). The song was written by Jay Kay and is a "tribute" to bassist Stuart Zender, who left the band shortly before ''Synkronized'' was completed. Jay Kay subsequently rerecorded all the songs on the album without Zender, and added "King for a Day" as the final track on the album. Upon its release on 29 November 1999, the song reached number 20 on the UK Singles Chart. The video features Jay Kay walking around an old mansion, where each room has a member of the band. "Supersonic" is the third single from British funk/acid jazz band Jamiroquai's fourth studio album, ''Synkronized'' (1999). The song was written by Jay Kay, Toby Smith, Derrick McKenzie, Sola Akingbola, Wallis Buchanan, and Simon Katz while Jay Kay and Al Stone produced it. The track peaked at 22 on the UK Singles Chart and became Jamiroquai's third No. 1 on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart. "Black Capricorn Day" is the fifth and final single released by British funk and acid jazz band Jamiroquai from their fourth studio album, ''Synkronized''. The single was released in 2000 in Japan only (becoming the second Jamiroquai single to be released in that region exclusively), peaking at number 14 on the Japan Hot 100. Despite the single never being available in the UK, the music video was included on the British version of the ''High Times: Singles 1992–2006'' DVD. The single contained remixes of previous hits "Canned Heat" and "Supersonic" but no remixes of "Black Capricorn Day". "Deeper Underground" is a single by British funk and acid jazz band Jamiroquai from the soundtrack to the 1998 film ''Godzilla''. Nick Fyffe (born 14 October 1972) is an English bassist, known for being an ex-bassist of English funk group Jamiroquai. He replaced Stuart Zender in 1999 with the release of the album ''Synkronized''. He was in the process of applying to a Jamiroquai tribute band when he got the offer to join Jamiroquai. Fyffe recorded and toured with the band until his departure in 2003. Since his departure from Jamiroquai, Fyffe has been lecturing at various colleges and playing with the English electronic group The Shapeshifters as well as blues rock band The Temperance Movement, whose self-titled first album was released on 16 September 2013. Subsequent albums with The Temperance Movement include ''White Bear'' (2016) and '' A Deeper Cut'' (2018). Fyffe regularly takes part in 'The Sunflower Jam', an annual live music event intended to raise money to provide alternative medicine in National Health Service hospitals. The album was released on 3 September 2001 in the United Kingdom by Sony Soho Square and 11 September 2001 by Epic Records in the United States. Stuart Patrick Jude Zender (born 18 March 1974) is an English bassist. He is best known as a former member of the band Jamiroquai. Biography Early life Zender was born in Sheffield, England. He comes from a family with a musical background: Zender's father was a musician, his uncle was a flamenco guitarist, and his older sister participated in punk bands. His family relocated to Norristown, Pennsylvania, when Zender was seven years old. He moved back to England at age 15, where he attended Leighton Park School in Reading, UK, for a year in 1988–89 before being expelled. Before leaving his home at age seventeen, Zender's mother had saved for him £2,000 for the occasion. As Zender said, he never had good business acumen, so instead of investing that money in some way, he visited a music store and bought a Warwick Streamer bass guitar which cost nearly the whole amount given to him by his mother. Released as a promotional album in 1997, the record features a selection of tracks from all three of the group's early studio albums, as well as an additional live recording of Kool & the Gang's "Hollywood Swinging".
