Synergy Percussion
Synergy Percussion is an Australian percussion ensemble formed as Synergy in Sydney in 1974. They mainly play works composed by others for the group. They marked their 40th year with a performance of a new work by Anthony Pateras, specially commissioned for the occasion. Synergy members have included founders Michael Askill Michael Askill is an Australian percussionist. He is a founding member of Synergy Percussion and Southern Crossings. Percussion Ensemble
A percussion ensemble is a musical ensemble consisting of only percussion instruments. Although the term can be used to describe any such group, it commonly refers to groups of classically trained percussionists performing primarily classical music. In America, percussion ensembles are most commonly found at conservatories, though some professional groups, such as Nexus and So Percussion exist. Drumlines and groups who regularly meet for drum circles are two other forms of the percussion ensemble. Early literature George Antheil's ''Ballet Mécanique'' (1923) is one of the earliest examples of composition for percussion, written originally as a film score and exemplifying the ideals of the Italian futurist movement. Antheil originally called for sixteen synchronized player pianos, as well as airplane engines, alongside more traditional percussion instruments. Anthony Pateras
Anthony Peter Pateras (born 1979) is an Australian-born composer, pianist and electronic musician. He has released several solo albums and collaborated with other artists. Pateras has performed and recorded in Australia, North America and Europe. At the APRA Music Awards' Art Music Awards, he has been nominated three times: 2011 for Performance of the Year for his composition, ''Refractions'', performed by Clocked Out and Speak Percussion; 2012 for Work of the Year – Instrumental for ''Flesh and Ghost'' performed by Speak Percussion; and 2015 for Performance of the Year for ''Beauty Will Be Amnesiac or Will not Be at All'' performed by Synergy Percussion. Michael Askill is an Australian percussionist. He is a founding member of Synergy Percussion and Southern Crossings. He has been a principal with the Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
