Sylvaine Strike
Sylvaine Strike is a South African actress, writer and theatre direction, theatre director based in Cape Town, South Africa. Early life Strike was born in Pretoria. She studied at the University of Cape Town and graduated with a degree in drama in 1993. Strike studied further from 1998 to 2000 in Paris at Jacques Lecoq, Jacques LeCoq School where completed a two year diploma with a focus in Mime artist, mime and clown. Career Theatre Strike is the current artistic director oFortune Cookie Theatre which she co-founded in 2000. With Fortune Cookie Theatre, Strike has directed such shows as Molière's ''The Miser'' (2012) and ''Tartuffe'' (2017) and the Anton Chekhov, Chekhov-adaptation, ''Tobacco and the Harmful Effects Thereof'' (2016). In 2004, Strike co-created the show ''Black and Blue'' with other members of Fortune Cookie, which she also starred in. In 2015, Fortune cookie remounted the production. ''Black Sails'' is an American historical adventure television series set on New Providence Island and written to be a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel ''Treasure Island''. National Arts Festival
The National Arts Festival (NAF) is an annual festival of performing arts in Grahamstown, South Africa. It is the largest arts festival on the African continent and one of the largest performing arts festivals in the world by visitor numbers. The festival runs for 11 days, from the last week of June to the first week of July every year. It takes place in the small university city of Makhanda (previously known as Grahamstown), in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The Baxter Theatre Centre is a performing arts complex in Rondebosch, a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. The Baxter, as it is often known, is part of the University of Cape Town; it is also the second largest performing arts complex in Cape Town, after the Artscape Theatre Centre.
