Sydney Evershed
Sir Sydney Herbert Evershed (13 January 1861 – 7 March 1937) was an English brewer and cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire from 1880 to 1901 and was a long-serving club captain from 1891 to 1898. Evershed was born in Stapenhill, the son of Sydney Evershed the brewer and MP for Burton. He was educated at Clifton College where he was in the School XI and XV. Evershed played cricket for Burton on Trent and for Staffordshire in 1878s. His Derbyshire career began in 1880 and he appeared in a Gentlemen of Derbyshire team during the 1880 season, in which he made 85 in the first innings before being bowled. Three days later he made his first appearance for Derbyshire against Yorkshire, though he was out for a duck in his first innings. Evershed did not appear for Derbyshire during 1882, but returned to play two games in 1883. Against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), in a rare spell of bowling, he took 5 for 19. Sydney Evershed (brewer)
Sydney Evershed (c. 1825 – 1903) was an English brewer and Liberal Party politician who represented Burton. Evershed's family came from Albury in Surrey. By 1860 he had moved to Burton-on-Trent, and became a Burton brewer. He lived at Stapenhill, where he built Albury House, named after his birthplace. Evershed was active in local politics and was one of the Improvement Commissioners, and one of the first councillors when Burton was incorporated as a borough in 1878. In 1886, he was elected as Member of Parliament for Burton which he held until 1900. He died at Marylebone in 1903. Evershed married Fanny Whitehead at Marylebone in 1856. Levi Wright
Levi George Wright (15 January 1862 – 11 January 1953) was an English footballer and first-class cricketer. He played association football for Derby County and Notts County and cricket for Derbyshire from 1883 to 1909 being captain for a season and a half in 1906–07. He scored over 15,000 runs in his first-class career and took 237 catches. He was one of nineteen sportsman who achieved the Derbyshire Double of playing cricket for Derbyshire and football for Derby County. Wright was born at Oxford and moved to Derby in 1881 to become a teacher at St Anne's School. He first played for the Napier Cricket Club, a pub team based at 'Sir Charles Napier' in Derby and then for the Derby Midland Club. William Evershed
William Evershed (25 November 1818 – 24 November 1887) was an English first-class cricketer who made his debut for Hampshire against Petworth in 1845. Evershed represented Hampshire against the same opposition again in the same season. In 1849 Evershed made a single appearance for Sussex against Surrey. Evershed died at Wisborough Green, Sussex on 24 November 1887. Geoffrey Bell (cricketer)
Geoffrey Foxall Bell (16 April 1896 – 17 January 1984) was an English cricketer and educationalist. He was a right-handed batsman who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire and Oxford University. He won the Military Cross during World War I and became headmaster of two schools. Early life Bell was born in Stapenhill, Derbyshire and was related to the Evershed brewing family. He made his first County Championship appearance in 1914, though his cricketing career was summarily halted by the First World War. In 1915, he was commissioned in the Royal Field Artillery and was awarded the Military Cross in 1919. Career After the war he went to study at Oxford University, and returned to the arena of first-class cricket playing for the University in 1919. Burton upon Trent Infirmary was a health facility in Duke Street, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. History The facility, which was designed by architect Edward Holmes, opened in October 1869. The infirmary's first President was the Marquess of Anglesey who also had been the previous owner of the site. It was expanded to a design by Aston Webb in 1899 in such a way that the building extended right back to New Street. George Davidson (cricketer)
George Arthur Davidson (29 June 1866 – 8 February 1899) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1886 and 1898 and for Marylebone Cricket Club between 1888 and 1898. A useful all-rounder, he scored over 5500 runs and took 621 wickets in his first-class career. Davidson was born in Brimington, Derbyshire, the son of Josh Davidson, a coal miner and his wife Elizabeth. His father played one game annually for Derbyshire from 1871 to 1875. Davidson's first-class career began for Derbyshire in the 1886 season playing in the first match of the season against Marylebone Cricket Club, a game where he played in the lower order. He played regularly for the rest of the season. William Chatterton
William Chatterton (27 December 1861 – 19 March 1913) was an English cricketer and footballer. He played first-class cricket for Derbyshire between 1882 and 1902 and for England on their tour of South Africa in 1891–92. He captained Derbyshire between 1887 and 1889 and scored over 10,000 runs in his first-class career as well as taking over 200 wickets.
