Sydney Chandrasekara
Sydney Chandrasekara (15 January 1959 – 14 November 2020, si, සිඩ්නි චන්ද්‍රසේකර), was a Sri Lankan journalist, lyricist, director and a prominent media personality. One of the iconic figures of Sri Lankan media, Chandrasekara has contributed for several television programs over a career spanned for more than four decades. Personal life He was born on 15 January 1959 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He completed education from Ananda College, Colombo. Chandrasekara died on 14 November 2020, at the age of 61 after being admitted to the hospital for a brief illness. Career He is a senior journalist as well as a television program producer and lyricist who worked extensively in Sri Lankan media. After school he joins Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), had the privilege of being mentored by the pioneer of Sri Lankan dubbing, Titus Thotawatte. Sirasa TV is a digital, terrestrial television network in Sri Lanka. It is the sister channel of ' TV One' (Previously MTV Channel and MTV Sports) which was established in 1992. Sirasa TV was started in 1998 as a sister to its radio network Sirasa FM. Sirasa TV is owned by the Sri Lankan business conglomerate, Capital Maharaja Group together with Gregson Holdings Ltd. Since then, another multi-national company - International Media Management - has also invested in MTV. It broadcasts its programs mainly in Sinhala. ''Udumbara'' ( si, උදුම්බරා) is a 2018 Sri Lankan Sinhalese sports drama film directed by K.S Chammanthraj and produced by MTV Channel as a Sirasa Movie. TV 1 is a Sri Lankan general entertainment television channel which provides English and Sinhalese content aimed at the youth market. Founded in 1992 as MTV Newsvision, it was one of Sri Lanka's first privately owned television channels. Its sister channel MTV was renamed Sirasa TV in June 1998 and MTV Newsvision was renamed MTV. MTV was later re-branded Channel One MTV. On 26 January 2012 the channel was re-launched as MTV Sports. MTV Sports was re-branded MTV in July 2015.
