''Sword of the Empire'' ( it, Una spada per l'impero) is a 1964 Italian ''peplum'' film directed by Sergio Grieco. Plot In AD 190 Rome is in terror. The barbarians have crossed the Alps leaving Rome under threat. Emperor Commodus is becoming increasingly hateful. Christians are being persecuted and the situation is becoming worse. Only one man can help. Consul Quintus Marcus is allied with legionnaires, gladiators and Christians and decides to generate an insurrection against the emperor. His fellow officers say they will fight with him but Rome needs Quintus Marcus, "the sword of the people!!!" Sergio Grieco
Sergio Grieco (13 January 1917 – 30 March 1982) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. Biography Sergio's father was the Italian Communist Ruggero Grieco. Grieco first started in film in the Soviet Union in 1931, working as an assistant to Nikolai Ekk on the first Soviet sound film '' Road to Life''. He began his Italian film career as a script supervisor in 1939, working his way up to an assistant director the following year. In 1949 he worked as an assistant to René Clément on his film ''The Walls of Malapaga'' (1949). His directorial debut was ''Il sentiero dell'odio'' (1950), beginning a prolific career in a variety of genres. He met his wife Teresa Terrone (renamed Susan Terry by her agent), who appeared in several of his films, beginning with ''The Mysterious Swordsman''/''Lo spadaccino misterioso'' in 1955. Giuseppe Addobbati (31 December 1909 – 4 January 1986) was an Italian film actor known for his roles in Spaghetti Western and action films in the 1960s and 1970s. He was often billed as John MacDouglas for films released to an American audience. Addobbati was born in Makarska and later lived in Trieste. He made over 80 film appearances between 1937 and 1980 often as a police officer or law enforcer. Lang Jeffries (June 7, 1930 – February 12, 1987) was a Canadian-American television and film actor. Biography From 1958 to 1960, Jeffries starred as Skip Johnson in the adventure television series ''Rescue 8''. He starred in several American films in the 1960s, including ''Don't Knock the Twist'' (1962). Jeffries starred as Vibio in the foreign film, '' La Rivolta degli schiavi'', or ''The Revolt of the Slaves'', with his wife Rhonda Fleming cast as Fabiola. Jeffries persuaded producers to cast him in the role after he traveled to Rome with his wife and discovered that the leading male role had not been cast. After he and Fleming traveled to Madrid to film, they discovered that the director, Nunzio Malasomma, would not speak to either of them, so Jeffries directed them both.
