Craig Swoope
Craig Avery Swoope, Sr. (born February 3, 1964), is a former professional American football player who played collegiately for the University of Illinois, and in 3 NFL seasons from 1986 to 1988 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts. He was a second-team All-American and four-time All-Big Ten selection for the Illini, and as of 2009 is third all-time on Illinois' career interceptions list. Swoope began his rookie season as the Buccaneers' starter at strong safety, and was named to the Football Digest all-rookie team. Injuries limited his playing time late in the season, and he was moved to free safety the next year. He was placed on the injured reserve list without playing a game the next season, and was later waived from the injured reserve list. Erik Swoope (born May 8, 1992) is an American former football player who was a tight end in the National Football League (NFL). He played college basketball at the University of Miami. Despite never having played organized football, he was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent after the 2014 NFL Draft. High school career Swoope attended Harvard-Westlake High School and played on the basketball team. As a senior, he averaged 21.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game, as well as 2.8 steals as well as 71% free throw percentage. He recorded 16 games of 20-or-more points, including eight with 30-or-more points. He scored 10-or-more points in all but two games that season. Jacob Swoope
Jacob Swoope (''ca.'' 17661832) was an eighteenth and nineteenth century politician from Virginia. Biography Born in Philadelphia in the Province of Pennsylvania around 1766, Swoope attended the common schools as a child. He moved to Staunton, Virginia in 1789 and held several local offices before being elected the first mayor of Staunton under the new charter of 1801. He was reelected mayor in 1804 before being elected a Federalist to the United States House of Representatives in 1808, serving from 1809 to 1811 having defeated Democratic-Republican Daniel Smith. Swoope died in Staunton in 1832 and was interred there in Trinity Episcopal Churchyard. William Irvin Swoope
William Irvin Swoope (October 3, 1862 – October 9, 1930) was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Swoope was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. He attended The Hill School in Pottstown, PA and Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and graduated from the law department of Harvard University in 1886. He was admitted to the bar in 1886, and practiced law in Minnesota, Nebraska, and Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. He was elected burgess of Bellefonte. In 1892, he returned to Clearfield and continued the practice of law. He was elected county chairman and district attorney for Clearfield County from 1901 to 1907. He was a delegate to the 1916 Republican National Convention. He served as deputy attorney general for Pennsylvania from 1919 to 1923.
