Swindon Town F
Swindon () is a town and unitary authority with Borough status in the United Kingdom, borough status in Wiltshire, England. As of the 2021 Census, the population of Swindon was 201,669, making it the largest town in the county. The Swindon unitary authority area had a population of 233,410 as of 2021. Located in South West England, the town lies between Bristol, 35 miles (56 kilometres) to its west, and Reading, Berkshire, Reading, equidistant to its east. Recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book as ''Suindune'', it was a small market town until the mid-19th century, when it was selected as the principal site for the Great Western Railway's repair and maintenance Swindon Works, works, leading to a marked increase in its population. FA Amateur Cup
The FA Amateur Cup was an English football competition for amateur clubs. It commenced in 1893 and ended in 1974 when the Football Association abolished official amateur status. History Following the legalisation of professionalism within football, professional teams quickly came to dominate the sport's main national knock-out tournament, the FA Cup. In response to this, the committee of the country's oldest club, Sheffield F.C., suggested in 1892 the organisation of a separate national cup solely for amateur teams, and even offered to pay for the trophy itself. The Football Association (the FA) declined the club's offer, but a year later decided to organise just such a competition. N. L. Barnsley () is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. As the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire. In Barnsley, the population was 96,888 while the wider Borough has seen an increase of 5.8%, from 231,200 in 2011 census to 244,600 in 2021 census. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is located between the cities of Sheffield, Manchester, Doncaster, Wakefield, and Leeds. The larger towns of Rotherham and Huddersfield are nearby. Frank Becton
Francis (Frank) Becton (11 May 1873 – 6 November 1909) was an English professional footballer at the turn of the 20th century. An inside forward, he turned out for Preston North End (in two separate spells), Liverpool, Sheffield United, Bedminster, Swindon Town, Ashton Town and New Brighton Tower. 1901–02 In English Football
The 1901–02 season was the 31st season of competitive football in England. League changes Doncaster Rovers and Bristol City replaced Walsall and New Brighton Tower in the Football League. Burton United were formed by a merger of Burton Swifts with former League side Burton Wanderers. Bristol City were the first non-London Southern side in the league. The 1900–01 season was the 30th season of competitive football in England. Overview Events Stockport County played their first season in the football league. Blackpool also returned to the league, at the expenses of Loughborough and Luton Town. Despite a run of four victories at the start of the season, Aston Villa finished fourth from bottom. 1898–99 In English Football
The 1898–99 season was the 28th season of competitive football in England. Overview Events This was the first season in which automatic promotion/relegation was introduced between the First and Second divisions. Both Divisions were expanded to 18 teams. The new teams to join the Second Division were: Barnsley, Glossop North End and New Brighton Tower. Burslem Port Vale also returned to the Football League. On 26 November 1898, the First Division match between The Wednesday and Aston Villa was abandoned after 79 minutes due to bad light. Rather than let the score stand or replay the whole match, The Football Association ordered that the remaining 11 minutes should be played at Hillsborough on 13 March 1899. Western Football League
The Western Football League is a football league in South West England, covering Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, western Dorset, parts of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. The league's current main sponsor is Toolstation, so it is also known as the Toolstation League. Recent restructuring of the English football league system has placed the two divisions, known as the Premier Division and Division One (each a maximum of twenty-two clubs) at the ninth and tenth tiers overall, known as Step 5 and Step 6 of the National League System. The champion club may apply for promotion to a Step 4 league, which in practice will almost certainly be the Southern League Division One South and West. The 1896–97 season was the 26th season of competitive football in England. Overview Aston Villa F.C., Aston Villa became the second team (after Preston North End F.C., Preston North End) to complete "Double (association football), the Double" of winning the Football League First Division, Football League Championship and the FA Cup. No other team would complete the double for 64 years. The 1897 FA Cup Final, Cup Final was played on 10 April 1897 between Aston Villa and Everton F.C., Everton.
