Swimming At The 2020 Summer Paralympics – Women's 100 Metre Freestyle
The Women's 100 metre freestyle swimming events for the 2020 Summer Paralympics took place at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre from 26 August to 3 September 2021. Swimming At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Swimming at the 2020 Summer Paralympics was held at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. There were 146 events (76 male, 67 female, 3 mixed relay events) - six fewer events than the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Swimming is the second largest sport: behind athletics and ahead of table tennis. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Qualification Qualification starts from 1 October 2018 and finishes on 1 August 2021. Classes There are three swimming sport class prefixes for swimming strokes: * S is for freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events. * SB is for breaststroke * SM is for individual medley events. Mariana Gesteira Ribeiro (born 28 June 1995) is a Brazilian Paralympic swimmer. S3 (classification)
S3, SB2, SM3 are disability swimming classifications used for categorising swimmers based on their level of disability. People in this class have decent arm and hand function, but no use of their trunk and legs. They have severe disabilities in all their limbs. Swimmers in this class have a variety of different disabilities including quadriplegia from spinal cord injury, severe cerebral palsy and multiple amputations. Events this class can participate in include 50m and 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke and 150m Individual Medley events. Hannah Russell, (born 5 August 1996) is a British Paralympic swimmer competing in S12 classification events. In 2012, she became British S12 champion in the 100m backstroke and qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games where she won a silver in the 400m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m butterfly. Maria Carolina Gomes Santiago (born 2 August 1985), also known as Carol Santiago, is a Brazilian Paralympic swimmer who competes in international level events. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics and won five medals, including three gold medals. Life Santiago has a congenital eye condition called morning glory syndrome which is a defect in her optic nerve, she is partially sighted in her left eye but doesn't have peripheral vision in her right eye. She began swimming aged four and took part in able-bodied swimming competitions and open water swimming aged twelve. Liesette Bruinsma (born 9 September 2000) is a Dutch Paralympic swimmer. She competes in S11 classification events for athletes with visual impairments. She is the 2016 double Paralympic champion within her classification. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Women's 400 metre freestyle S11, and Women's 100 metre freestyle S11, winning silver medals.
