The men's marathon 10 kilometres competition of the swimming events at the 2015 Pan American Games took place on July 12 at the Ontario Place West Channel, where athletes completed six 1.67 km laps. Ontario Place
Ontario Place is an entertainment venue, event venue, and park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The venue is located on three artificial landscaped islands just off-shore in Lake Ontario, south of Exhibition Place, and southwest of Downtown Toronto. It opened on May 22, 1971, and operated as a theme park centered around Ontario themes and family attractions until 2012 when the Government of Ontario announced that it would close for redevelopment. It has since reopened as a park without admission but without several of the old attractions. The Government of Ontario is currently considering further redevelopment of the site. Since the closure as a theme park, several of the venue's facilities have remained open, once reopened, and one section was redeveloped. The Budweiser Stage operates during the summer season. Samuel Menegon de Bona (born 1 October 1990 in Porto Alegre) is a Brazilian swimmer, who specialized in the open water marathon. He trained at Grêmio Náutico União, in Porto Alegre. In April 2011, he won, for the first time, the Travessia dos Fortes (the most important competition of the calendar of aquatic marathons in Brazil). At the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, de Bona placed 36th in the 5 km marathon, with a time of 1:01:20.9, 44th in the 10 km marathon, with a time of 2:02:17.2, and 16th in the 25 km marathon, with a time of 5:27:38.1. Eric Hedlin (born April 18, 1993) is a Canadian long-distance swimmer. Hedlin won a silver medal in the men's open water 5 km swim at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships. Career Hedlin began his notable international career competing in Randy Bennett's Victoria Swim Academy that also includes major Canadian World and Olympic medallist Ryan Cochrane who is also a long distance swimmer. As a member of the Canadian swim team he won a bronze medal at the 2013 Summer Universiade in the men's 800 m freestyle. Hedlin qualified for the 2013 World Aquatics Championships by finishing 16th at the FINA World Cup event in Cancun Mexico in April of that year.
