London Aquatics Centre
The London Aquatics Centre is an indoor facility with two swimming pools and a diving pool in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London. The centre, designed by architect Zaha Hadid as one of the main venues of the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Paralympics, was used for the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming events. After significant modification, the centre opened to the public in March 2014. Design The centre was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid in 2004 before London won the bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics. It was built alongside the Water Polo Arena and opposite the Olympic Stadium on the opposite bank of the Waterworks River. The site is high, long, and wide. Susan Beth Scott
Susan Beth Scott (born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri), is an American Paralympic swimmer. She competed at World Championships in 2006 in South Africa, before moving to the Olympic Training Center to swim for Jimi Flowers. Her first Games participation was at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics where she won a bronze medal for 400 m freestyle and the same year became ESPY Award nominee for being the Best Female Athlete with a Disability. In 2009, Scott held a World record in 1500 m freestyle and next year won one golds for 34 point medley at 2010 World Championships. At the same place she also got a silver medal for 400 metre freestyle and a bronze one for 100 m backstroke. Couple of years later she received a silver and two bronze medals for her participation at 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. Katherine Rose Downie (born 12 January 1996) is an Australian Paralympian. Kat first represented Australia in 2011. Kat represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in swimming and was a member of both the Gold medal Women's 34 point 4 x 100 free and 4 × 100 medley relay teams. Kat placed fourth in both her pet events the 100 backstroke and 200IM. Katherine lives with mild right hemiplegic spastic cerebral palsy and is an Australian S10 classified swimmer. Shireen Sapiro
Shireen Sapiro (born 25 January 1991 in Krugersdorp) is a South African Paralympic swimmer, most notable for her performance at the 2008 Summer Paralympics, winning a gold medal for the 100 m backstroke. She also claimed a bronze medal at the London 2012 Paralympics in the 100m backstroke. On 9 April 2004, Sapiro was seriously injured in a waterskiing accident which resulted in her left leg being paralysed. At the 2009 Maccabiah Games, Sapiro was appointed flag bearer for the South African delegation at the opening ceremony.
