Ihor Snitko (Ігор Снітко, also spelled Igor Snitko, born 13 August 1978) is a freestyle swimmer from Ukraine, who was a specialist in the long-distance events. He won the silver medal in the men's 1500 m freestyle event at the 1997 European Championships in Seville, Spain, followed by the gold medal two years later in Istanbul. Denys Sylantyev
Denys Olegovich Sylantyev ( uk, Денис Олегович Силантьєв; born 3 October 1976) is a Ukrainian politician and retired swimmer. He competed at four consecutive Olympics between 1996 and 2008 and who won a silver medal in the 200 m butterfly in 2000. At the next Olympics he was the flag bearer for Ukraine. He won the Mare Nostrum circuit three times: 2000, 2001 and 2002. In 1998 he was named European Swimmer of the Year. Sylantyev retired from competitions shortly after the 2008 Olympics and focused on politics and development of sport in Ukraine. In the 2012 Ukrainian parliamentary election, Silantyev was a self-nominated candidate in constituency No.217 situated in Kyiv's Obolon District but he did not win a parliamentary seat. He lost this election to Oleksandr Bryhynets of Batkivshchyna who gained 31.75% of the votes while Silantyev gained 5.18% and fourth place. Byron Shefchik
William Byron Shefchik, III, born in 1974, is the only current male member of the Brigham Young University (BYU) Swimming and Diving Team to be elected into the BYU Hall of Fame. Shefchik was a five-time All-American and three-time Academic All-American during his time at BYU. He graduated from BYU with his MBA in 2000 and works for Rich Products as a Senior Marketing Manager in Jacksonville, FL. BYU career 1992–1993 — Freshman Year Shefchik was a recipient of academic scholarship at BYU. Despite multiple swimming awards in High School, he was not recruited for the BYU Swim team and joined as a walk on. He placed third in the 200 breast and 11th in the 400 IM at the WAC Championships and earned Academic All-WAC status as a freshman with a 3.98 GPA. Aleksandr Tkachev (russian: Александр Ткачев; born 11 November 1972) is a Russian-born Kyrgyzstani former swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. He collected a total of three medals, one gold and two silver, at the Universiade (1995 and 1997), and later represented his adopted nation Kyrgyzstan at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Emanuele Merisi (born 10 October 1972) is an Italian former professional swimmer, specialized in backstroke, who won a bronze medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Career Merisi was born in Treviglio, province of Bergamo ( Lombardy). He began to swim at the age of 8, becoming a member of the Italian national team in 1989. His first important medal was at the European LC Championships 1993 in Sheffield, where he won a bronze medal in his favourite race, the 200 m backstroke. He repeated the result in the European LC Championships 1995, this time as a member of the 4×200 m freestyle relay.
