Swimming At The 2020 Summer Paralympics – Men's 50 Metre Freestyle
The Men's 50 metre freestyle swimming events for the 2020 Summer Paralympics took place at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre from August 25 to September 2, 2021. Swimming At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Swimming at the 2020 Summer Paralympics was held at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. There were 146 events (76 male, 67 female, 3 mixed relay events) - six fewer events than the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Swimming is the second largest sport: behind athletics and ahead of table tennis. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Qualification Qualification starts from 1 October 2018 and finishes on 1 August 2021. Classes There are three swimming sport class prefixes for swimming strokes: * S is for freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events. * SB is for breaststroke * SM is for individual medley events. Denis Tarasov
Denis Tarasov (born 31 July 1993) is a Paralympic swimmer from Russia competing mainly in category S8 events. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London he won five medals, including gold in the 50 metre freestyle S8 event. He has represented Russia at two IPC World Championships with a total of 12 medals. At the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow he set four world records, two as part of Russian relay teams and two individual records, in the 50m and 100m freestyle S8 events. Personal history Tarasov was born with a congenital cerebral palsy. His father is a reired boxer, and his brother competed in swimming. He attends Saratov State University where he studies economics. S3 (classification)
S3, SB2, SM3 are disability swimming classifications used for categorising swimmers based on their level of disability. People in this class have decent arm and hand function, but no use of their trunk and legs. They have severe disabilities in all their limbs. Swimmers in this class have a variety of different disabilities including quadriplegia from spinal cord injury, severe cerebral palsy and multiple amputations. Events this class can participate in include 50m and 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke and 150m Individual Medley events. Maksym Veraksa
Maksym Veraksa (born 14 August 1984) is a paralympic swimmer from Ukraine competing mainly in category S12 events. Career Maksym competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics as part of the Ukrainian Paralympic team. There he competed in five events winning five medals, four of them gold. In the 100m Backstroke he finished third behind Russia's Alexander Nevolin-Svetov and fellow Ukrainian Sergii Klippert who both swam quicker than the previous world record. Maksym however got revenge beating both athletes in the 50m and 100m freestyle, the 200m individual medley and beating Sergei in the 100m Breaststroke all in world record times. Phelipe Andrews Melo Rodrigues (born 10 August 1990) is a paralympic swimmer from Brazil competing mainly in category S10 events. He was born with a club foot and had two surgeries when he was just four weeks old. After his second surgery when his foot was in the right position he had an infection which made his leg blow the knee and specially his tendon to stop growing, disabling his right foot movements. He started swimming when he was 8 months as physiotherapy. He also tried many different sports but his passion since childhood was swimming.
