The Men's 100 metre freestyle swimming events for the 2020 Summer Paralympics took place at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre from August 25 to September 1, 2021. A total of six events were contested over this distance. Schedule Medal summary The following is a summary of the medals awarded across all 100 metre freestyle events. Swimming At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Swimming at the 2020 Summer Paralympics was held at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. There were 146 events (76 male, 67 female, 3 mixed relay events) - six fewer events than the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Swimming is the second largest sport: behind athletics and ahead of table tennis. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Qualification Qualification starts from 1 October 2018 and finishes on 1 August 2021. Classes There are three swimming sport class prefixes for swimming strokes: * S is for freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events. * SB is for breaststroke * SM is for individual medley events. As well as swimming strokes, they are also divided into ten different categories: * S1/SB1: swimmers who may have tetraplegia or some form of loss of muscular power in their legs, arms and hands. Maksym Serhiyovich Krypak ( uk, Максим Сергійович Крипак, born 23 May 1995 in Kharkiv) is a Paralympic swimmer from Ukraine who competes in S10 and SM10 (individual medley) events. He won five gold and three silver medals at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, setting new world records in the 100 m backstroke and 400 m freestyle. Krypak won seven medals at the 2020 Paralympic Games and became the most titled athlete of these games. S5 (classification)
S5, SB4, SM5 are disability swimming classifications used for categorizing swimmers based on their level of disability. The class includes people with a moderate level of disability, and includes people with full use of their arms and hands, but limited to no use of their trunk and legs. It also includes people with coordination problems. A variety of disabilities are represented by this class including people with cerebral palsy. The class competes at the Paralympic Games. Definition This classification is for swimming. In the classification title, S represents Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly strokes. SB means breaststroke. SM means individual medley. Swimming classifications are on a gradient, with one being the most severely physically impaired to ten having the least amount of physical disability. Gustavo Sánchez Martínez (born 3 May 1994, in Mexico City) is a Mexican competitive swimmer, born without left hand and both legs, who won four medals for Mexico at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. He competed in five events, 50m freestyle (5th place), 100m freestyle (1st place), 200m freestyle (1st place), 150m medley (2nd place), 50m backstroke (3rd place). Gustavo became well known at World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands, 2010, where he won three bronze medals.
