Ulrike Richter (later Schmidt, born 17 June 1959) is a German former swimmer who competed for East Germany in the 1970s. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal she won three gold medals. She received two gold medals at the 1973 World Aquatics Championships, and two in 1975. Richter set 14 world records during her career, in 100 m backstroke, 200 m backstroke, and medley relay. Gail Amundrud-Beattie (born April 6, 1957) is a former competition freestyle swimmer from Canada. Swimming career At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Amundrud won a bronze medal in the women's 4x100-metre freestyle relay, alongside her Canadian teammates Becky Smith, Barbara Clark and Anne Jardin. Individually, she also finished fifth in the final of the 200-metre freestyle, and advanced to the semifinal of the 100-metre freestyle. Patti Stenhouse (born 24 September 1955) is a Canadian former swimmer who was Commonwealth champion in the 100 metre butterfly. Stenhouse, a butterfly specialist, swam for the Ridge SC in Surrey, British Columbia, which was formed by her father Jim to train his three children. Mary Pauline Stewart (born December 8, 1945), also known by her married name Mary Stewart McIlwaine, is a Canadian former competitive swimmer. Swimming career Stewart twice broke the world record in the women's 100-metre butterfly in the early 1960s. Stewart also competed in freestyle events as a member of the Canadian national team in major international championships. As a 14-year-old, she represented Canada in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, where she finished eighth in the women's 100-metre freestyle, and also competed in the preliminary hears of the women's 4x100-metre medley relay event. Two years later at the 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth, Western Australia, she won the gold medal in the women's 100-metre butterfly. Wendy Elizabeth Hogg née Wendy Cook (born September 15, 1956) is a female retired Canadian swimmer. Swimming career She competed in backstroke and medley relay events at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics and won a bronze medal in the relay in 1976; in the individual 100 m backstroke she placed fourth in 1976 and fifth in 1972. At the 1973 World Championships she won a bronze medal in the 100 m backstroke and placed fifth in the medley relay. At the 1974 Commonwealth Games, she won gold medals in the 100 and 200 m backstroke and in the medley relay, setting a world record in the 100 m backstroke; she finished fourth in the 400 m individual medley. Swimming career Atkinson represented Great Britain at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, where she competed in the preliminary heats of the women's 100- and 200-metre butterfly events.
