Swift Creek Township (also designated Township 18) is one of twenty townships within Wake County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census, Swift Creek Township had a population of 50,225, a 41.6% increase over 2000. Swift Creek Township, occupying in south-central Wake County, includes portions of the towns of Cary and Garner and of the city of Raleigh. Swift Creek is also an unincorporated community within Wake County, located between the municipalities of Raleigh, Cary, Apex, and Garner. A non-binding referendum on incorporation for the Swift Creek area was held in November 2000. Out of 4,220 votes cast, 2,492 (58%) voted in favor of incorporation. Swift Creek is a river in the Hudson Bay drainage basin in Northern Manitoba, Canada. It runs from an unnamed lake to the Nelson River, which it enters as a left tributary. The river flows under the Hudson Bay Railway (passed by the Via Rail Winnipeg – Churchill train), between the flag stops of Charlebois to the north and Amery to the south, just past its source; and under Manitoba Provincial Road 290 just before its mouth. Swift Creek is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map accessed April 1, 2011 river in the U.S. state of Virginia. It rises west of Richmond, Virginia, Richmond in Powhatan County, Virginia, Powhatan County near U.S. Route 60 and travels southeast through Powhatan County and into Chesterfield County, Virginia, Chesterfield County southwest of Hallsboro. Swift Creek flows to the north side of the Swift Creek Reservoir. After a series of twists and turns it courses into Pocahontas State Park, where it then forms Swift Creek Lake. After flowing out of Pocahontas State Park and into southeastern Chesterfield County, it eventually forms the northern boundary of Colonial Heights, Virginia, Colonial Heights, where it joins the Appomattox River. Swift Creek (Washington)
Swift Creek is a southward-flowing tributary of the Baker River, about long, in Whatcom County in the U.S. state of Washington. It rises in glaciers near Table Mountain, Mount Ann, and Kulshan Ridge, and flows west before being joined by more glacial tributaries. It then winds south-southeast for several miles to Baker Lake reservoir, and there it is joined by Morovitz Creek directly before it enters the lake. Park Creek is a small east-flowing stream that enters Baker Lake very near Swift Creek, but should not be confused as a tributary with it. The Battle of Swift Creek or Arrowfield Church was fought on May 9, 1864, between Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. Union forces were only partially successful: they inflicted damage on the local railroad, but further advance was halted. Description On May 9, Maj. Gen. Benjamin Butler made a thrust toward Petersburg and was met by Bushrod Johnson's Division at Swift Creek. A premature Confederate attack at Arrowfield Church was driven back with heavy losses, but Union forces did not follow up. Swift Creek Culture
The Swift Creek culture was a Middle Woodland period archaeological culture in the Southeastern Woodlands of North America, dating to around 100-800 CE. It occupied the areas now part of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee. In Florida, Swift Creek ceremonial practices and burial complexes are referred to technically as the Yent-Green Point complex. The Swift Creek culture was contemporaneous with and interacted with the Hopewell culture; Swift Creek is often described as "Hopewellian." The type site for the Swift Creek culture was the Swift Creek mound site, which was located in Bibb County, Georgia. The Leake Mounds are another significant Swift Creek Culture site in Georgia. Swift Creek peoples practiced mound-building but were generally non-sedentary. Their sustenance resulted from hunting, gathering/collecting, and fishing.
