Sweet Rush (film)
''Sweet Rush'' (Polish: ''Tatarak'') is a 2009 Polish drama film directed by Andrzej Wajda. The film won the Alfred Bauer Prize (in tie with ''Giant'') at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival in 2009. The film is based on a small-town in Poland in the late 1950s, where an aging woman married to a workaholic doctor meets a young man who makes her feel young again. Framed around this story, lead actress Krystyna Janda discusses the death of her husband from cancer. Andrzej Wajda
Andrzej Witold Wajda (; 6 March 1926 – 9 October 2016) was a Polish film and theatre director. Recipient of an Honorary Oscar, the Palme d'Or, as well as Honorary Golden Lion and Honorary Golden Bear Awards, he was a prominent member of the "Polish Film School". He was known especially for his trilogy of war films consisting of ''A Generation'' (1955), ''Kanał'' (1957) and '' Ashes and Diamonds'' (1958). He is considered one of the world's most renowned filmmakers whose works chronicled his native country's political and social evolution and dealt with the myths of Polish national identity offering insightful analyses of the universal element of the Polish experience – the struggle to maintain dignity under the most trying circumstances. Jan Aleksander Englert (born 11 May 1943) is a Polish film actor. He has appeared in more than 60 films since 1957. Since 2003 he has served as Artistic Director of the National Theatre in Warsaw. Biography In 1957 at the age of 14 he made his film debut in Andrzej Wajda's ''Kanał''. In 1964, Englert graduated from the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw and started working in the Polish Theatre, where at first he mostly played supporting roles. A breakthrough came in 1968 with the international success of ''Notes'', produced by the Television Theatre, where he was noticed by Kazimierz Kutz and offered work in film. 59th Berlin International Film Festival
The 59th Berlin International Film Festival was held from 5 February to 15 February 2009. The opening film of the festival was Tom Tykwer’s '' The International'', screened out of competition. Costa-Gavras's immigrant drama '' Eden Is West'' served as the closing night film at the festival. The festival's jury president was actress Tilda Swinton of the United Kingdom. The Golden Bear was awarded to Peruvian film '' La Teta Asustada'' directed by Claudia Llosa. The retrospective dedicated to the Golden Age of 70mm filmmaking from 1955 to 1970, titled ''70 mm – Bigger than Life'' was shown at the festival. Admission for the festival was reported to be among the highest in years, and it also set a record for ticket sales, with some 270,000 tickets sold by the halfway mark, compared to 240,000 sold for the entire run of the festival the previous year.
