Margrethe Blossom Dearie (April 28, 1924 – February 7, 2009) was an American jazz singer and pianist. Allan Ganley
Allan Anthony Ganley (11 March 1931 – 29 March 2008) was an English jazz drummer and arranger. Career Ganley was born in Tolworth, Surrey, England. A self-taught drummer, in the early 1950s Ganley played in the dance band led by Bert Ambrose. In 1953, he came to prominence as a member of Johnny Dankworth's band. Also in the 1950s, he worked with Derek Smith (musician), Derek Smith, Dizzy Reece, Vic Ash, and Ronnie Scott. Towards the end of the decade he was co-leader with Ronnie Ross of a small group known as the Jazzmakers. In the early 1960s, Ganley often worked with Tubby Hayes, playing with his small groups and the occasionally assembled big band. As house drummer at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club he played with Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Jim Hall (musician), Jim Hall, Freddie Hubbard, and Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Frederick "Freddy" Logan (1930–2003) was a Jazz musician (Double bass). Career After learning bass during his teens, Freddy Logan became a professional musician in 1948, playing in local bands until he joined the Pia Beck Trio in 1949. The trio toured England and the Netherlands before Freddy left the group. Logan returned to England in 1953 to study at Guildhall School of Music, and continued playing jazz in London where he worked with Kenny Graham, Harry Klein and Derek Smith. In 1956 he moved to Sydney, Australia, where he hosted his own radio program ''Jazz For Pleasure'' and started the Jazz II club. After winning a readers poll in ''Music Maker'' magazine, Logan was among a group given studio recording time, and he recorded his first album recorded in Australia as part of the Music Maker 1957 All Stars. André George Previn (; born Andreas Ludwig Priwin; April 6, 1929 – February 28, 2019) was a German-American pianist, composer, and conductor. His career had three major genres: Hollywood films, jazz, and classical music. In each he achieved success, and the latter two were part of his life until the end. In movies, he arranged and composed music. In jazz, he was a celebrated trio pianist, a piano-accompanist to singers of standards, and pianist-interpreter of songs from the "Great American Songbook". In classical music, he also performed as a pianist but gained television fame as a conductor, and during his last thirty years created his legacy as a composer of art music. Dorothy "Dory" Veronica Previn ( Langan; October 22, 1925 – February 14, 2012) was an American lyricist, singer-songwriter and poet. During the late 1950s and 1960s, Previn was a lyricist on songs intended for motion pictures and, with her then husband, André Previn, received several Academy Award nominations. In the 1970s, after their divorce, she released six albums of original songs and an acclaimed live album. James Van Heusen (born Edward Chester Babcock; January 26, 1913 – February 6, 1990) was an American composer. He wrote songs for films, television and theater, and won an Emmy and four Academy Awards for Best Original Song. Samuel Cohen (June 18, 1913 – January 15, 1993), known professionally as Sammy Cahn, was an American lyricist, songwriter, and musician. He is best known for his romantic lyrics to films and Broadway songs, as well as stand-alone songs premiered by recording companies in the Greater Los Angeles Area. He and his collaborators had a series of hit recordings with Frank Sinatra during the singer's tenure at Capitol Records, but also enjoyed hits with Dean Martin, Doris Day and many others.
