The Swedish Union of Professional Musicians ( sv, Sveriges Yrkesmusikerförbund - SYMF) is a trade union that will organise professional singers and musicians. The union emerged as a split from the Swedish Musicians' Union (SMF) in the mid-1980's to solely represent musicians with employment contracts (as opposed to freelance musicians). The Confederation of Professional Employees ( sv, Tjänstemännens Centralorganisation, TCO) is a national trade union centre, the umbrella organization, umbrella organisation for 13 trade unions in Sweden that organise professional and other qualified employees in both the private and the public sectors. The affiliated trade unions represent about 1.1 million employees. In 2018, the TCO affiliated unions made up 37% of all active trade union members in Sweden (up from 17% in 1950), making the confederation the second largest of Sweden's three major confederations. The largest TCO affiliate is Unionen with 551,000 active members in 2018. TCO is independent and not affiliated to any political party in Sweden. Swedish Musicians' Union
The Swedish Musicians' Union ( sv, Musikerförbundet, Musikerna) is a trade union representing musicians in Sweden. The union was founded on 19 December 1907 in Stockholm, with about 700 members. It grew very slowly until World War II, but this changed after it joined the Swedish Trade Union Confederation in 1939. It moved from 1,954 members in 1938, to 13,240 in 1946. The Association of Stage and Film and the Swedish Notary Writers' Association transferred in during 1942, followed in 1948 by the Stockholm Film and Theatre Workers' Union. In 1952, the cinema section of the Swedish Municipal Workers' Union transferred in, followed in 1965 by the Association of Swedish Chamber Musicians and the Association of Musical Artists.
