Henry Swanzy
Henry Swanzy (14 June 1915 – 19 March 2004) was an Anglo-Irish radio producer in Britain's BBC General Overseas Service who is best known for his role in promoting West Indian literature particularly through the programme ''Caribbean Voices'', where in 1946 he took over from Una Marson, the programme's first producer. Swanzy introduced unpublished writers and continued the magazine programme "with energy, critical insight and generosity". It is widely acknowledged that "his influence on the development of Caribbean literature has been tremendous". Henry Rosborough Swanzy
Henry Rosborough Swanzy (1843 - 12 April 1913) was an Irish ophthalmic surgeon who was a former President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and was influential in the merger of St Mark's Ophthalmic Hospital with the National Eye and Ear Infirmary to become Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital. He was connected to the Adelaide Hospital, Dublin. Swanzy was born in 1843, the son of John Swanzy. He attended University of Dublin completing studies with a master's degree then took further studies in medicine at Trinity College. He also studied in Germany and thereafter worked for Albrecht von Graefe, a famous oculist. Mary Swanzy
Mary Swanzy HRHA (15 February 1882 – 7 July 1978) was an Irish landscape and genre artist. Noted for her eclectic style, she painted in many styles including cubism, futurism, fauvism, and orphism, she was one of Ireland's first abstract painters. Early life and education Mary Swanzy was born in Dublin on 15 February 1882, the second of three daughters of Sir Henry Rosborough Swanzy, an eye surgeon, and his wife Mary (née Denham). The family residence was at 23 Merrion Square. Swanzy attended Alexandra College, Earlsfort Terrace, a finishing school at the Lycée in Versailles, France, and a day school in Freiburg, Germany. This education meant that Swanzy was fluent in French and German. She went on to take art classes at Mary Manning's studio, under the direction of John Butler Yeats. Mount Swanzy is a mountain summit located in Glacier National Park (Canada), Glacier National Park in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Mount Swanzy is surrounded by ice including the Bonney Glacier, Clarke Glacier, and Swanzy Glacier. Its nearest higher peak is Mount Bonney, to the west.
