Swan Districts
The Swan Districts Football Club, nicknamed the Swans, is an Australian rules football club playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). The club is based at Bassendean Oval, in Bassendean, an eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. The club was formed in 1932, and joined the then-Western Australian National Football League (WANFL) in 1934, acting as a successor to the Midland Junction Football Club, which had disbanded during World War I, in the Perth Hills region. History Swan Districts finished seventh on the WANFL ladder winning seven out of 21 games in their debut season in 1934. The presence of established WANFL players like inaugural captain-coach "Judda" Bee from East Fremantle and Fred Sweetapple from West Perth was critical to the fledgling club's competitiveness. Ted Holdsworth
Henry Edwin Arthur Holdsworth (26 January 1917 – 23 September 1984) was an Australian rules footballer who was highly successful in the West Australian Football League, West Australian National Football League (WANFL) playing for the Swan Districts Football Club. A fine full forward who was a strong overhead mark and a very accurate kick Holdsworth topped the top goal kicker list at Swan Districts during his career. In 1937 and 1938 he kicked 109 and 116 goals respectively yet never topped the WANFL goal kickers list. Undoubtedly Holdsworth would have kicked even more goals if he had been part of a more successful team and had not been called to play in Defense (sports), defence to prevent other sides from kicking higher totals against the struggling Swans. Jim Ditchburn
Albert James Ditchburn (24 August 1908 – 7 March 1964) was an Australian sportsman who represented Western Australia in both Australian rules football and first-class cricket. He played and coached in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL) during the 1930s Ditchburn, who was born in the Western Australian goldfields, started his league career in 1929 with Subiaco. He crossed to South Fremantle in 1932 and put together 93 games for the club, during which time made the first of his ten interstate football appearances with Western Australia. Used by his state both in the ruck and as a half forward flanker, Ditchburn twice captained Western Australia to wins over South Australia in 1938. Keith Harper (footballer)
Keith Harper (12 July 1927 – 12 August 1997) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Perth in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL) during the late 1940s and 1950s. His younger brother Roy also played with the club. WANFL Harper had an accomplished career at Perth, which began in the 1948 season. Used mostly as a centreman or winger, Harper won the first of his four 'Fairest and Best' awards in 1951 before winning it again in 1953, 1957 and 1959. He was appointed club captain in 1955 and led Perth to the premiership that year, their first since 1907. From 1956 to 1960 he remained captain of Perth but they didn't experience anymore premiership success. In Australian rules football, zoning (originally called district football, or electorate football in South Australia) refers to a system whereby a given area, either region or lower-level football league, is reserved exclusively for one club. Zoning has been historically an important part of most major Australian football leagues, being usually justified as necessary to ensure a reasonably equitable competition. South Fremantle Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Fremantle, Western Australia. The club plays in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL) and the WAFL Women's (WAFLW), commonly going by the nickname the ''Bulldogs''. The Subiaco Football Club, nicknamed the Lions and known before 1973 as the ''Maroons'', is an Australian rules football club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW).
