Swan 37
Swan 37 is a GRP constructed, fin keeled, one tonner masthead sloop and successor to the Swan 36. It was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and manufactured by Nautor Oy between 1970 and 1974 with total of 59 boats being built. Sparkman & Stephens designed the Americas Cup winner Intrepid (1967 and 1970) with a trim tab on the trailing edge of the keel. S&S used the same trim tab on at least some of the early Swan 37s. Measured by racing success, Swan 37 is one of the most successful Swan yachts ever built and it is famous for winning the Round Gotland Race on six occasions in four decades by a yacht called Tarantella II. At least two Swan 37 boats Dulcinea and Trishna are known to have circumnavigated the world. As part of that circumnavigation, Dulcinea participated in the Cape to Rio race in 1976. Round Gotland Race
The Round Gotland Race ( sv, Gotland runt), for sponsorship reasons referred to as ÅF Offshore Race in commercial situations, is an offshore sailing race in the Baltic Sea, arranged by the Royal Swedish Yacht Club at the turn of the month June/July each year with the starting and finishing lines in Sandhamn in the outskirts of Stockholm archipelago. The two-days regatta is the most prestigious race in the Baltic Sea and have an average of around 300 participating sailing boats. The competition is divided into eight different classes, sailing on five different courses. The longest, 653 Nautical mile, M, is sailed by 60-foot trimarans, the shortest 179 Nautical mile, M, for classic boats. The overall victor is appointed in the ORC International class. ''Trishna'' is a Swan 37 yacht belonging to the Indian Army Corps of Engineers, Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army. The name ''Trishna'' means “to thirst for” in the Sanskrit language. The 1970-vintage boat, earlier known as ''Guinevere of Sussex'', was purchased in 1984 from the United Kingdom. The yacht has since been used for long distance ocean sailing and training. The first of the yachts' journeys after it was acquired was its voyage from Gosport to Mumbai, India. Sloop
A sloop is a sailboat with a single mast typically having only one headsail in front of the mast and one mainsail aft of (behind) the mast. Such an arrangement is called a fore-and-aft rig, and can be rigged as a Bermuda rig with triangular sails fore and aft, or as a gaff-rig with triangular foresail(s) and a gaff rigged mainsail. Sailboats can be classified according to type of rig, and so a sailboat may be a sloop, catboat, cutter, ketch, yawl, or schooner. One Ton Cup
The One Ton Cup is a trophy presented to the winner of a sailing competition created in 1899 by the Cercle de la voile de Paris (CVP). Synopsis The One Ton Cup regattas were at the beginning of races between one-tonner sailing dinghies, according to the 1899 Godinet rule. This ''Coupe internationale du Cercle de la voile de Paris'', its original name, was raced from 1907 until 1962 on boats that measured the International gaff-rigged 6 Metre rule, except for four years, from 1920 to 1923, where it was raced on 6.5m SI.
