Swedish Art
Swedish art refers to the visual arts produced in Sweden or by Swedish artists. Sweden has existed as a country for over 1,000 years, and for times before this, as well as many subsequent periods, Swedish art is usually considered as part of the wider Nordic art of Scandinavia. It has, especially since about 1100, been strongly influenced by wider trends in European art. After World War II, the influence of the United States strengthened substantially. Due to generous art subsidies, contemporary Swedish art has a big production per capita. Though usually not especially a major centre for art production or exporter of art, Sweden has been relatively successful in keeping its art; in particular, the relatively mild nature of the Swedish Reformation, and the lack of subsequent extensive rebuilding and redecoration of churches, has meant that with other Scandinavian countries, Sweden has had an unusually rich survival of medieval church paintings and fittings. Erland Munch-Petersen
Erland Munch-Petersen (28 March 1930 – 12 May 1997) was a Danish literary scholar and professor at the University of Gothenburg. He was the general editor of the '' Guide to Nordic bibliography''. Biography Munch-Petersen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark . He was the grandson of scholar and jurist Erland Munch-Petersen (1869-1934). His basic education was at the Holte Gymnasium. Munch-Petersen trained as a librarian from 1956. He gained his M.A. in general and comparative literature from the University of Copenhagen in 1962 and his Ph.D. in 1978 for his thesis on ''Romanens århundrede. Studier i den masselæste oversatte roman i Danmark 1800-1870''. From 1969, he was head of the Danmarks Biblioteksskole (now the Royal School of Library and Information Science). Johnny Roosval
John (Johnny) August Emanuel Roosval (29 August 1879 – 18 October 1965) was a Swedish art historian, Medieval ecclesiastical art specialist, and university professor. Biography Johnny Roosval was born in a bourgeois family in Kalmar, but grew up in Stockholm from the age of five and went to school there. Education He studied at Uppsala University from 1897, and finished his ''kandidat'' degree in Philosophy, Latin, French, and Æsthetics with the history of literature and art, and Scandinavian philology in two years. In 1899 he went to Berlin as a tutor for the son of the Swedish military attaché there, Henrik de Maré. The son, Rolf de Maré, later became known as an art collector and as the owner of the Ballets Suédois. Henrik de Maré's wife, sculptor Ellen von Hallwyl, would later divorce him and married Johnny Roosval in 1907. Ragnar Josephson (Stockholm 8 March 1891 - Lund 27 March 1966) was a Swedish art historian and writer.
