Sven Andersson (politician)
Sven Olof Morgan Andersson (5 April 1910 – 21 September 1987) was a Swedish Social Democratic politician. He served as Minister of Defence from 1957 to 1973, and as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1973 to 1976. Andersson also served as Minister of Communications (Transport) from 1951 to 1957. He was during this time as a prominent Social Democratic cabinet minister a strong anti-Communist and defence hawk. He was a key player in the IB affair which became public knowledge in Sweden in 1973. Andersson was among the editors-in-chief of '' Stockholms-Tidningen'', a social democrat newspaper. He was awarded the Illis quorum ''Illis quorum'' (''Illis quorum meruere labores'') ( English: "For Those Whose Labors Have Deserved It"), is a gold medal awarded for outstanding contributions to Swedish culture, science or society. The Minister for Foreign Affairs ( sv, utrikesminister) is the foreign minister of Sweden and the head of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The current Minister for Foreign Affairs is Tobias Billström of the Moderate Party. History The office was instituted in 1809 as a result of the constitutional Instrument of Government promulgated in the same year. Until 1876 the office was called Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs ( sv, statsminister för utrikes ärendena, commonly known as ''utrikesstatsminister''), similar to the office of Prime Minister for Justice ( sv, justitiestatsminister). The Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs initially served as head of the Cabinet of Foreign Mail Exchange at the Royal Office. ''Stockholms-Tidningen'' (Swedish: ''The Stockholm Times'') was a Swedish-language morning newspaper published in Stockholm, Sweden, between 1889 and 1984 with an interruption from 1966 to 1981. It was one of the major dailies in the country together with ''Dagens Nyheter'' and '' Aftonbladet'' in the 1960s. History and profile ''Stockholms-Tidningen'' was established by Anders Jeurling in 1889. The paper was based in Stockholm. During its early stage it had three editions: morning edition, evening edition and provincial edition. However, in 1890 only two editions continued. In order to gain larger readership the price of ''Stockholms-Tidningen'' was kept low, and its content included popular and concentrated news. The paper sold 10,000 copies in 1890 and 42,000 copies in 1894. It achieved a circulation more than 100,000 copies in 1900, becoming the first Swedish newspaper which exceeded that amount of circulation and was the first mass circulation paper in the country.
