Suzanne Johnston
Suzanne Johnston (born 1958) is an Australian operatic mezzo-soprano who first performed professionally in 1981. Born in the Melbourne suburb of Murrumbeena, Johnston attended Kilvington Grammar School. She then had singing lessons at the Victorian College of the Arts with Joan Hammond. Along with Judi Connelli she won the 1999 ARIA Award for Best Original Cast or Show Album for their album ''Perfect Strangers''. Johnston and Connelli have performed the cabaret shows ''Perfect Strangers'' and ''Take Two!'' around Australia. The pair, first with Jennifer McGregor and later Rosemary Boyle, were part of the 3 Divas who have toured nationally and released a self-titled album in 2000. Mo Awards
The Australian Entertainment Mo Awards (commonly known informally as the Mo Awards) were an annual Australian entertainment industry award, that where established in 1975, to recognise achievements in live entertainment in Australia. They were last awarded in 2016. Lucky Grills, actor and comedian came up with the idea to create an awards show to celebrate Australian Variety, during a meeting in 1975. The Mo Awards, initially were founded as the Star Awards and were a state honour in New South Wales only, local entertainers started the awards to promote the live entertainment industry in New South Wales. Johnny O'Keefe became chairman in 1976, and decided the awards should become an Australia-wide national awards program. Christine Douglas
Christine Douglas is an Australian opera singer and director. Douglas, a soprano, trained at the Victorian College of the Arts. She performed in multiple Australian Opera productions including Cosi fan tutte, Fidelio, La Bohème, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Pagliacci, The Magic Flute, Patience, and Hansel and Gretel. The soundtrack album to an Opera Australia staging of Hansel and Gretel earned a nomination for the 1999 ARIA Award for Cast or Show Album for Opera Australia, Christine Douglas and Suzanne Johnston. In 2003 Douglas and Sylvie Renaud-Calmel established Pacific Opera. ''Hansel and Gretel'' (German: ') is an opera by nineteenth-century composer Engelbert Humperdinck, who described it as a ' (fairy-tale opera). The libretto was written by Humperdinck's sister, Adelheid Wette, based on the Grimm brothers' fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel". It is much admired for its folk music-inspired themes, one of the most famous being the "" ("Evening Benediction") from act 2. The idea for the opera was proposed to Humperdinck by his sister, who approached him about writing music for songs that she had written for her children for Christmas based on "Hansel and Gretel". The 13th Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as the ARIA Music Awards or simply The ARIAS) was held on 12 October 1999 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Hosted by Paul McDermott and Bob Downe, and presenters, including Melanie C of the Spice Girls, Tina Cousins, Fiona Horne and Molly Meldrum, distributed 33 awards. The big winner for the year was Powderfinger with four awards.
