Sutton Railway Station (Ireland)
Sutton railway station ( ga, Cill Fhionntáin) is a railway station in Fingal, Ireland that serves the village and district of Sutton, and is also accessible from Baldoyle. History The station opened on 30 July 1846. The Howth tram ran between here and Howth railway station until 1959. The station is on the coastal road from Sutton to Baldoyle, near Sutton Golf Club. The ticket office is open from 05:45 to 20:00, Monday to Sunday. CIÉ 8100 Class
The CIÉ 8100 class (also known as the 8300 class) were the first electric multiple units used on the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) system. Built by General Electric Company, GEC and Alstom, Linke-Hofmann-Busch in 1983, they are two-car units, and were the only units used on the DART before the arrival of the IE 8200 Class, 8200 Class. 40 two-car sets were delivered, numbered 8101/8301 to 8140/8340. 81XX units are power cars while 83XX units are unpowered driving trailers. The driving cabs are full width, with the inner ends connected by Gangway connection, gangways. Power cars always head north, while driving trailers head south. Baldoyle () is a coastal suburb of Dublin's Northside (Dublin), northside. It is located in the southeastern part of the jurisdiction of Fingal, Republic of Ireland, Ireland, developed from a former fishing village. Howth DART station ( ; ga, Stáisiún Bhinn Éadair), is a railway station in Fingal, Ireland that serves Howth village and one side of Howth Head. History The Station opened on 30 May 1847, The Howth tram ran between here and Sutton railway station (all the way around Howth Head) until 1959. Within the station buildings (although not accessible from the platforms) are a bar and restaurant and a convenience store. Operations Howth is a two-platform terminal station. Due to the lack of a run-round or turntable facility, on the rare occasion that a locomotive-hauled train arrives (such as on a railtour), a second locomotive must follow the train light engine from Dublin to haul the train back from Howth. The Howth Tram on the Hill of Howth Tramway was a tram which served Howth Head, near Dublin, Ireland. The termini were at Sutton railway station, Dublin, Sutton railway station, by the entrance to the peninsula, and Howth railway station by the village and harbour of Howth. Design The line of the route was designed in-house by the Great Northern Rail staff at their Dublin office, under William Hemingway Mills, chief engineer. The engineer responsible for the detailed design was Joshua Harrison Hargrave, the famous Cork-born photographer/engineer. History The service operated from June 1901 to 31 May 1959 and was run by the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) (GNR(I)), which viewed it as a way to bring more customers to its railway stations at Sutton, Dublin, Sutton and Howth. Fingal ( ; ) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the province of Leinster and is part of the Eastern and Midland Region. It is one of three successor counties to County Dublin, which was disestablished for administrative purposes in 1994. Sutton ( ga, Cill Fhionntain – Fintan's cell or church) is a residential suburb on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. It occupies the tombolo which links Howth Head to the mainland, some of the lower slopes of Howth Hill, and a little of the adjacent coasts. The area lies within the jurisdiction of Fingal County Council. There is a small commercial core at the Sutton Cross road intersection.
