Susquehanna Township is a township in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 972 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Williamsport Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Susquehanna Township was established during the December 1838 sessions of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. It was formed from parts of Nippenose and Armstrong townships. Susquehanna Township was first surveyed in 1769. The surveyors named it "Upper Bottom" to distinguish it from a piece of land further to the east that was named "Lower Bottom", present-day Duboistown and South Williamsport. The first settlers arrived in 1801 and cleared the alluvial plain near the West Branch Susquehanna River and began farming. The village of Nisbet, a collection of about a dozen homes, rose up around the railroad station of the same name. History The East Oriental Covered Bridge and North Oriental Covered Bridge are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography The township is at the eastern end of Juniata County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , all land. Susquehanna Township is bordered by Monroe Township and Snyder County to the north. Mahantango Creek and its west branch form the boundary with Snyder County. The Susquehanna River forms the eastern boundary with Northumberland County. This represents a 9.8% increase from the 2000 census count of 21,895. Susquehanna Township has the postal ZIP codes 17109 and 17110, which maintain the Harrisburg place name designation. The township is a suburb of Harrisburg and is connected to Marysville by the Rockville Bridge, the world's longest stone-arch rail bridge at the time of its completion. History Susquehanna Township is located adjacent to the city of Harrisburg in Dauphin County. It was named from the Susquehanna River which runs along its western edge. On June 4, 1785, the state legislature created Dauphin County from part of Lancaster County. Susquehanna Township is a township in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,007 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Susquehanna Township was incorporated on January 6, 1825, being formed from Allegheny and Cambria Townships. In addition to agriculture, the ready local supply of lumber attracted people to the area in the early 19th century. Much of this was transported down the West Branch Susquehanna River to lumber towns such as Williamsport. In the late 19th century, the arrival of the railroad opened up the area to coal mining. The subsequent mining boom created many jobs, attracting a large number of people to settle in the area of Susquehanna Township, many of whom remained with their families after the boom had ended. Hutchinson County is a county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 7,427. Its county seat is Olivet. The county was created in 1862 and organized in 1871; it was named for John Hutchinson, first territorial secretary. History Hutchinson County was created by act of the territorial legislature on May 8, 1862. Its boundaries included portions of present-day Davison and Hanson Counties, and part of what is presently Hutchinson County was within the boundaries of Jayne County. Maxwell City was established as the county seat, and it remained there until October 1873 when it was moved to Olivet following an election.
