Susie Wind
Susie Wind (born 1968 in Wichita, Kansas) is a visual artist specializing in oils and chalk paintings. She is active in the Seattle arts community but has participated in showings across the United States. Wind received a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the University of Utah in 1995 and a master's degree in Art Therapy from College of Notre Dame in Belmont, California in 1997. She is married to Professional Engineer Lloyd Wind. They had two children. Wind specializes in "Urban Settings", a subset of American Scene Painting, a generalized series of vignettes attempting to capture the unknown stories of previous inhabitants of the spaces we now inhabit. Fine Art
In European academic traditions, fine art is developed primarily for aesthetics or creative expression, distinguishing it from decorative art or applied art, which also has to serve some practical function, such as pottery or most metalwork. Art Therapy
Art therapy (not to be confused with ''arts therapy'', which includes other creative therapies such as drama therapy and music therapy) is a distinct discipline that incorporates creative methods of expression through visual art media. Art therapy, as a creative arts therapy profession, originated in the fields of art and psychotherapy and may vary in definition. There are three main ways that art therapy is employed. The first one is called analytic art therapy. Analytic art therapy is based on the theories that come from analytical psychology, and in more cases, psychoanalysis. Analytic art therapy focuses on the client, the therapist, and the ideas that are transferred between the both of them through art. Another way that art therapy is utilized is art psychotherapy. American Scene Painting
American Regionalism is an American realist modern art movement that included paintings, murals, lithographs, and illustrations depicting realistic scenes of rural and small-town America primarily in the Midwest. It arose in the 1930s as a response to the Great Depression, and ended in the 1940s due to the end of World War II and a lack of development within the movement. It reached its height of popularity from 1930 to 1935, as it was widely appreciated for its reassuring images of the American heartland during the Great Depression.
