Sushma Joshi
Sushma Joshi ( ne, सुष्मा जोशी) is a Nepali writer, filmmaker based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Her fiction and non-fiction deal with Nepal's civil conflict, as well as stories of globalization, migration and diaspora. ''End of the World'', her book of short stories, was long-listed for the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award in 2009. "The Prediction", another book of short stories that bring together stories of tradition and modernity, was published in 2013. ''Art Matters,'' a book of essays about contemporary art, was supported by the Alliance Française de Katmandou. Her non-fiction reportage has appeared in ''The Kathmandu Post'', ''The Nation Weekly'', ''Indian Express (USA)'', ''Republica'', and other publications. Gorkhali
The Gurkhas or Gorkhas (), with endonym Gorkhali ), are soldiers native to the Indian Subcontinent, chiefly residing within Nepal and some parts of Northeast India. The Gurkha units are composed of Nepalis and Indian Gorkhas and are recruited for the Nepali Army (96000), Indian Army (42000), British Army (4010), Gurkha Contingent Singapore, Gurkha Reserve Unit Brunei, UN peacekeeping forces and in war zones around the world. Gurkhas are closely associated with the ''khukuri'', a forward-curving knife, and have a reputation for military prowess. Former Indian Army Chief of Staff Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw once stated that: "If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or he is a Gurkha."
