The biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Biathlon Junior World Championships
Biathlon Junior World Championships were first held in 1967 for men and in 1984 for women. According to the International Biathlon Union rules, biathletes qualify as Junior if they turn 20, 21 or 22 during the season from November to October, they qualify as Youth when they turn 17, 18 or 19 during the season. History The first venue was Altenberg (then East Germany). The age limit of the participating athletes is 20 years. On 24 June 2009, it was decided that Nove Mesto na Moravě (Czech Republic), Lahti (Finland) and Obertilliach (Austria) will be the venues for the World Junior Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Biathlon World Championships 2016
The 48th Biathlon World Championships was held in Oslo, Norway from 3 to 13 March 2016. There were 11 competitions in total: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, relay races for men and women, and mixed relay. All the events during this championships also counted towards the Biathlon World Cup. Host selection Oslo was the sole candidate for this championship. Oslo was announced as the host city on 2 September 2012 during the X IBU Congress in Merano, Italy. Two years earlier Oslo lost Biathlon World Championships 2015 to Kontiolahti. This was the sixth time that these World Championships were held in Oslo; the city had previously hosted the event in 1986, 1990 (certain events held in Oslo due to difficult weather in the host city of Minsk), 1999 (certain events held in Oslo due to difficult weather in the host city of Kontiolahti), 2000 and 2002 (only the mass start as it was not on the program for the 2002 Olympics). The International Biathlon Union (IBU; german: Internationale Biathlon-Union) is the international governing body of biathlon. Its headquarters were in Salzburg, Austria, until May 2020, when the Federation moved to Anif, on the outskirts of the city.
