Susan McWilliams Barndt
Susan McWilliams Barndt (; born January 6, 1977) is an American political theorist. She is the co-editor of the peer-reviewed academic journal ''American Political Thought'' and chairs the politics department at Pomona College. Early life and education McWilliams was born on January 6, 1977, and grew up in central New Jersey. Her father was political scientist Wilson Carey McWilliams, and her grandfather was political journalist Carey McWilliams (journalist), Carey McWilliams. She became interested in politics from a young age. She attended Amherst College and subsequently received her doctorate in politics from Princeton University. Career McWilliams began teaching at Pomona College in 2006, having been drawn to the college as a "dream school" by professor John E. Seery, John Seery. She chairs its politics department. ''American Political Thought'' is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal focusing on American "ideas, institutions, and culture." It is published by the University of Chicago Press and sponsored by the American Political Thought organized section of the American Political Science Association. The journal bridges "the gap between historical, empirical, and theoretical research." It was established in 2012, and is "the only peer-reviewed academic journal exclusively devoted to its subject." The founding editor-in-chief was Michael Zuckert (University of Notre Dame). The University Press of Kentucky (UPK) is the scholarly publisher for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and was organized in 1969 as successor to the University of Kentucky Press. The university had sponsored scholarly publication since 1943. In 1949, the press was established as a separate academic agency under the university president, and the following year Bruce F. Denbo, then of Louisiana State University Press, was appointed as the first full-time professional director. Denbo served as director of UPK until his retirement in 1978, building a small but distinguished list of scholarly books with emphasis on American history and literary criticism.
