Surya Prasad Upadhyaya
Surya Prasad Upadhyaya (14 September 1907 – 30 July 1984) was a Nepalese politician. Upadhyaya was a leader of the Nepal Democratic Congress, which merged with into the Nepali Congress in 1950. He was born in Kathmandu on 14 September 1907. Upadhyaya became Home and Law Minister in the Nepali Congress cabinet after the 1959 election. He led the Nepalese delegation at the 1959 UN General Assembly. During the December 1960 royal coup d'état, he was arrested along with B.P. Koirala and Ganesh Man Singh. In 1978 he took part in a split in the Nepali Congress, and he and Bakhan Singh Gurung Baghan ( fa, باغان, also Romanized as Bāghān; also known as Bākhān) is a village in Sarshiv Rural District, Sarshiv District, Marivan County, Kurdistan Province, Iran. Ganesh Man Singh
Ganesh Man Singh ( Nepali:गणेशमान सिंह) (November 9, 1915 – September 18, 1997) was the leader of the democratic movement of 1990 in Nepal. He is revered as the Father of Democracy and the Iron-man of Nepali politics. He joined Praja Parishad to protest against the autocratic rule of the Ranas. Early life Ganesh Man Singh was born on November 9, 1915, in Itum Bahal, Kathmandu. His father was Gyan Man Singh and his mother was Sanunani Shrestha Singh. His father died when he was young, so his grandfather, Ratna Man Singh (who was Badakaji in the Rana regime), raised him. 1959 Nepalese Legislative Election
General elections were held in Nepal from 18 February to 3 April 1959 to elect the 109 members of the first House of Representatives, the lower house of the Parliament of Nepal. They were held under the provisions of the 1959 constitution, which had been adopted on 12 February. More than 4.25 million people out of an overall population of about 8.55 million (1954) were eligible to vote. Voter turnout was 42.18%. The result was a victory for the Nepali Congress, winning 74 of the 109 seats with 38% of the vote. B. P. Koirala became the first democratically elected and 22nd Prime Minister of Nepal. Campaign 786 candidates competed for 109 seats in the House of Representatives; 268 ran as independents, with the others representing nine parties.
