Surjya Kanta Mishra
Surjya Kanta Mishra is an Indian politician, belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He served as Minister of Health and Minister in-charge of Land & Land Reforms, Panchayats & Rural Development in the Left Front governments of West Bengal and was the Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), West Bengal State Committee between 2015 and 2022. After the 2011 assembly election he was elected as Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly in May 2011. He was inducted into the politburo of the CPI(M) following the death of veteran leader M.K. Pandhe in 2011. In 2015, he was elected as the state secretary of CPI(M) in West Bengal, succeeding Biman Bose. Early life Mishra was born in Khakurda in Narayangarh. He is a qualified doctor. 2011 West Bengal State Assembly Election
Assembly election was held in Indian state of West Bengal in 2011 to elect the members of West Bengal Legislative Assembly as the term of the incumbent government was about to expire naturally. It was held in six phases between 18 April and 10 May 2011 for all the 294 seats of the ''Vidhan Sabha''. The Trinamool Congress won an absolute majority of seats. The Left Front ( bn, বামফ্রন্ট; ) is an alliance of left-wing political parties in the Indian state of West Bengal. Biman Bose (born July 1, 1938) is an Indian politician who was once state Secretary of the West Bengal Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was later succeeded by his trusted aide, Surya Kanta Mishra, although he remained a Politburo member of the party. He is also Chairman of the Left Front committee of West Bengal. Early life Biman Bose was an alumnus of Maulana Azad College, under the University of Calcutta. During his educational experience, Bose was known to be involved in political and social activities. He participated in an election campaign during an assembly by-election in 1954, while he was still in school.
