Surinder Singh (Ashok Chakra)
Subedar Surinder Singh, Ashoka Chakra (military decoration), AC was an Indian military Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) with the 3rd Battalion of the Sikh Regiment. He was posthumously awarded India's highest peace time military decoration Ashoka Chakra (military decoration), Ashoka Chakra. Military career Subedar Surinder Singh was a soldier of Sikh Regiment of Indian Army. During the year 2002, he was serving in the 3rd Battalion of the Sikh Regiment. On 3 March 2002, he single-handedly killed four terrorists near the Line of Control in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir (state), Jammu and Kashmir. Singh killed one of them while they were just a few metres away from the Line of Control. At this, the terrorists dispersed into the jungles and Singh led a search for them. Surender Singh is an Indian politician from the Aam Admi Party, currently representing Delhi Cantonment in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. He was a hero of the 26 November 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack hero, NSG commando, war disabled soldier from Indian Army. Career He was earlier an Indian Army commando, from one of its oldest infantry regiments, The Grenadiers Regiments. He took part in the Kargil War, Operation Parakram, Operation Sadbhavna, Operation Black Tornado and was part of the Operation North Night Final mission in Congo. Surinder Singh Kairon (8 December 1927 – 16 March 2009) was an Indian politician from Punjab. He was a member of Indian National Congress and represented Taran Taran in 10th Lok Sabha. He was son of ex-chief minister of Punjab, Partap Singh Kairon. He was a member of Punjab Vidhan Sabha before being elected to the Lok Sabha. His son Adesh Partap Singh Kairon is married to Parkash Singh Badal's daughter Preneet Kaur. He died after suffering a massive cardiac arrest in Amritsar on 16 March 2009. Singh Bandhu is an Indian musical duo composed of brothers Tejpal Singh (b 1937) and Surinder Singh (b 1940), exponents of Hindustani classical music and Sikh music (shabad kirtan). In 2004, Tejpal Singh and Surinder Singh were given a joint Sangeet Natak Akademi Award from India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama.
