Surface Paradise
''Surface Paradise'' is the second full-length album by Australian rock band Root!, released on 24 July 2009. The album follows the previous year's EP release ''Get Up Yourself'', of which several references are made to. Continuing the band's more rock-oriented explorations since their debut, the album features several recurring motifs, both musical and lyrical and can be considered a loose concept album. The album's concept is that of the fictional, and perhaps metaphorical, 'Surface Paradise', which is most specifically referred to in the album's title tracks. The paradise itself is directly mentioned as a being like a supermarket, yet it is likely to be a non-physical place, where the world's trendy and elite are seen to reside. Root!
Root! (stylised ROOT!) was an Australian rock band from Melbourne formed in 2005. Their music combines alt-country, blues and indie rock with elements of spoken word, satire, social commentary and post-modernism. They have gained attention through a band member being a former member of Melbourne band TISM. History In early 2005, Root! began as a series of demos written solely by lead singer Damian Cowell ("DC Root"). In late 2006, guitarist Henri Grawe ("Henri Root") was hired as a tradesperson to build a set of shelves for DC. "Henri came 'round to my house to build me some shelves and I discovered that he was a jazz trained musician". During 2006, the group was fleshed out with Steve Root on keyboards and Barnaby Root on drums. Boost Juice Bars is an Australian multinational retail outlet owned by parent company Retail Zoo that specialise in fruit juice and smoothies. ''Thank God You're Here'' is an Australian television improvised comedy program created by Working Dog Productions, which premiered on Network Ten on 5 April 2006, and aired for the first three seasons and on Seven for the fourth season. Each episode involves performers walking through a door into an unknown situation, greeted by the line "Thank God you're here!". They then had to improvise their way through the scene. At the end of each episode a winner was announced. It was the most successful new show in Australia of 2006, attracting an average of 1.7 million viewers after the first few episodes. Get Up Yourself
''Get Up Yourself'' is an EP by Australian rock band Root!, released on 23 August 2008. It is both a follow-up to the band's previous release '' Root Supposed He Was Out of the Question...'' and a sample of the upcoming second album '' Surface Paradise'' (formerly ''Root is the Money of All Evil''). The EP contains three tracks of Root!'s style of country and rock music and one track composed of a reworking of the title track featuring DC Root's signature ironic lyrics. It is an entirely spoken word track. The band toured outside of Victoria for the first time in support of the release. Frontman DC was also interviewed on Triple J's popular breakfast show to promote the tour and EP. Whilst on air, he continually denied any link to Melbourne band TISM and also recited a poem about Stephanie Rice.
