Suresh Talwalkar
Taalyogi Pandit Suresh Talwalkar (born 1948) is an Indian musician who plays the percussion instrument ''tabla''. Performing career Talwalkar was born in 1948 into a Marathi family in Chembur, Mumbai. He belongs to the Keertankar family of Shri Dholebuva. Keertana being a classical form of devotional and musical discourse, a liking for the classical music was inculcated in him right in the childhood. He initially learned playing the ''tabla'' from his father Dattatrey Talwalkar. He trained under ''tabla'' players Pandharinath Nageshkar , Vinayakrao Ghangrekar and Ramdutt Patil and studied the rhythm theory of Carnatic music and Hindustani classical singing. His style draws from several ''gharanas'' (stylistic schools) and he accompanied classical musicians and dancers; Talwalkar frequently performed with ''sarangi'' player Ram Narayan since the late 1960s, accompanied classical singer Ulhas Kashalkar, and has toured in the United States, Europe, and Africa. Gandharva Mahavidyalaya
Gandharva Mahavidyalaya New Delhi is an institution established in 1939 to popularize Indian classical music and dance. The Mahavidyalaya (school) came into being to perpetuate the memory of Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, the great reviver of Hindustani classical music, and to keep up the ideals set down by him. The first Gandharva Mahavidyalaya was established by him on 5 May 1901 at Lahore. The New Delhi school follows the syllabi set by the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal. Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (IPA: Saṅgīta Nāṭaka Akādamī Puraskāra), also known as the Akademi Puraskar, is an award given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama.
