Nongmeikapam Suresh Meitei (born 30 March 1994) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a defender for Indian Super League club Punjab. Early life Suresh was born on 30 March 1994 in Indian state of Manipur. Career Army Red Suresh had featured for Army Red in the 2019 Durand Cup. He served as the captain of the club. Suresh played his first match against I-League side East Bengal on 3 August 2019. The match ended 2–0 in favour of East Bengal. The 2022 Durand Cup, also known as IndianOil Durand Cup due to sponsorship ties with Indian Oil Corporation, was the 131st edition of Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia, and also the first edition since it was recognised by the Asian Football Confederation. This year for the first time the tournament was played in more than one venue. 2021–22 I-League
The 2021–22 I-League (also known as Hero I-League for sponsorship reasons) is the 15th season of I-League, last as the top tier of Indian football league system, since its establishment in 2007. All the matches are hosted in a bio-secure bubble in West Bengal due to COVID-19 pandemic in India. After the commencement of the first match-week of the league on 27 December, the tournament got suspended on 29 December for an uncertain period due to reports of numerous COVID-19 cases among the players and staff. The 2021 Durand Cup is the 130th edition of Durand Cup, the oldest football tournament in Asia. Like its previous edition, the tournament was hosted in West Bengal, instead of its traditional venue, Delhi. The tournament is jointly hosted by the Eastern Command of the Indian Armed Forces and the Government of West Bengal. The Durand Cup was cancelled in 2020 due to worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and was reorganised in 2021 after a year gap.
