SCRIPT (medicine)
SCRIPT is a standard promulgated by the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) for the electronically transmitted medical prescriptions in the United States. Adoption The first version of SCRIPT was approved in 1997. Version 8.1 was proposed as a federal rule by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS") in November, 2007, and adopted in 2008, thereby mandating its use for medical providers that used electronic subscriptions, in order to obtain federal insurance reimbursement. Health information exchange (HIE) is the mobilization of health care information electronically across organizations within a region, community or hospital system. Participants in data exchange are called in the aggregate Health Information Networks (HIN). The Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act, also called the Medicare Modernization Act or MMA, is a federal law of the United States, enacted in 2003. It produced the largest overhaul of Medicare in the public health program's 38-year history. The MMA was signed by President George W. Bush on December 8, 2003, after passing in Congress by a close margin.
