Suranga Arunakumara
Suranga Arunakumara (full name Gonapinu Walavithanage Suranga Arunakumara; born 21 August 1978) is a former Sri Lankan cricketer. He was born in Kohuwala. He has played for the Sinhalese Sports Club in the domestic game and internationally he has not played. He was a left-arm medium pace bowler in 18 first-class matches from the 1997–98 season to 2001–02 and took 30 wickets. His best bowling was 5–79. Arunakumara made his first-class debut in December 1997 when he played in the 1997–98 Hatna Trophy for the Sinhalese against the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Sinhalese Sports Club
The Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) is a first-class cricket club in Sri Lanka. Singhalese is the most successful club in Sri Lankan domestic cricket, having won the Premier Trophy a record 32 times to 2017. Although the name is correctly spelt with the old spelling "Singhalese", the name is sometimes misspelt with the modern spelling "Sinhalese". Three former Prime Ministers of Sri Lanka have been presidents of the club. History In 1899, a combined school cricket team, composed mainly of cricketers from Royal College, S. Thomas' College and Wesley College beat Colts Cricket Club by a one run. Premier Trophy
The Major League Tournament (formerly known as the Premier Trophy) is the main domestic first-class cricket competition in Sri Lanka. It was established in 1938 and has existed under a number of different names. Matches before the 1988–89 season are not considered first-class. Relaunched as the Lakspray Trophy in 1988–89, it was renamed as the P. Saravanamuttu Trophy in 1990–91 and as the Premier Championship in 1998–99. There was a change of format in 2015–16 when it became the Premier League Tournament which was split into Tiers A and B the following year. The league was cancelled in 2020–21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then a new temporary tournament was introduced in 2021–22 called the National Super Provincial 4-Day Tournament. Moors Sports Club is a first-class cricket team based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. History Moors Sports Club was founded by members of Colombo Grand Mosque at New Moor Street in the Colombo neighbourhood of Pettah. Like most clubs founded during the colonial era it was founded on ethno-religious lines and catered to the minority Moorish community. The club later moved to its present location at Muttiah Road in the neighbourhood of Slave Island. Sir Razik Fareed laid the foundation stone for a Club House on 25 September 1936 and Governor Sir Edward Stubbs declared open the pavilion on 27 February 1937.
