Supreme Military Council Of Nigeria (1983–1985)
The Supreme Military Council was the body that ruled Nigeria after the 1983 Nigerian coup d'état. Its chairman, Muhammadu Buhari, was the head of state. It lasted until the 1985 Nigerian coup d'état, when Ibrahim Babangida replaced the body with a new Armed Forces Ruling Council (Nigeria), Armed Forces Ruling Council (which lasted until 1993). A Supreme Military Council (Nigeria 1966), previous Supreme Military Council was established by Yakubu Gowon and ruled Nigeria from 1966–1979 until the Second Nigerian Republic. Joseph Olayeni Oni
Joseph Olayeni Oni (born 5 July 1938) was the military governor of Niger State, Nigeria from July 1978 to October 1979 during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo. Oni replaced Navy Commander Okoh Ebitu Ukiwe. He established a budget of N157 million for 1979, of which N76 million was devoted to capital expenditure. Promoted to Brigadier, Oni was commander of the 1st Division from 9 January 1984 to 16 September 1985. Etim Okon Inyang (25 December 1931 – 26 September 2016) was a Nigerian Policeman and former Inspector General of Police. He was appointed in 1983 to succeed Sunday Adewusi and was succeeded by Muhammadu Gambo Jimeta in 1986. He died at the age of 84 in Lagos, Nigeria. Inyang was born in Enwang Mbo, Akwa Ibom, the son of Okon Inyang the traditional ruler at Enwang. He had his education at the Roman Catholic School, Uko-Akpan (1936 - 1937), Methodist School, Oron (1939 - 1940) and Oyubia Secondary School, Oron (1941 - 1945). National Security Organization
The National Security Organization (NSO) of Nigeria, or Nigerian Security Organization, was created under Decree number 27 of 1976 by the military regime of Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, after the failed Buka Suka Dimka, Dimka coup which claimed the life of former Head of State Gen. Murtala Mohammed. The NSO was given a mandate of co-ordinating Internal Security, Foreign Intelligence and counterintelligence activities. It was charged with the detection and prevention of any crime against the security of the state, with the protection of classified materials, and with carrying out any other security missions assigned by the president. During the time of the military regime, and continuing through the Nigerian Second Republic, the NSO was accused of carrying out systematic and widespread human rights abuses, especially of those seen to be critical of the government. Mohammed Lawal Rafindadi (1934–2007) was a Nigerian diplomat and security chief from Katsina state. Ambassador Rafindadi was a career diplomat in the Nigerian foreign service and also a pioneer intelligence officer in the Research Department (RD) of the Foreign Ministry. He served as Nigeria's Ambassador to West Germany between 1981 and 1983 and later as the third and last Director-General of the National Security Organization (NSO). Life Rafindadi was born on February 12, 1936 in his home town of Katsina. He enrolled at Gafai Elementary School in 1944 finishing his primary education in 1948. He then proceeded to Provincial Secondary School, Katsina (1948-1953) and in 1954, he attended Clerical Training College, Zaria. Okoh Ebitu Ukiwe
Okoh Ebitu Ukiwe (born 26 October 1940) is a retired Commodore in the Nigerian Navy who served as the de facto Vice President of Nigeria under military head of state General Ibrahim Babangida from 1985 to 1986. Family Ukiwe was born on 26 October 1940, son of Chief Ebitu Ukiwe of Abiriba in Abia State. His father was a traditional ruler in Abiriba and Head of the Old Bende Division Local Government Appeal Court. Naval career Ukiwe joined the Nigerian Navy in 1960 as a cadet (officer), and was commissioned in 1964 with the rank of sub-lieutenant. He defected to the Biafran Armed Forces in 1966. Biafran War During the Nigerian Civil War from 1967 to 1970 he fought on the Biafran side.
