Supreme Council Of Physical Culture
Supreme Council of Physical Culture (russian: Высший Совет Физической Культуры) was created in Russia as a consultation body for the Vsevobuch and existed from August 1920 to June 1936. It was a predecessor of the State Sports Committee of the USSR. Brief outline In 1923 the council was reassigned as a standing committee to the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and was created with central executive committees of other republics of the Soviet Union. In 1930 such a council was created at the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union. In 1931 there was introduced by OSOAVIAKHIM the first training programme ''Ready for Labour and Defence of the USSR''. In 1935 it led to development of the Unified Sports Classification System of the USSR. In 1933 there was established the Central science research institute of physical culture. Great Soviet Encyclopedia
The ''Great Soviet Encyclopedia'' (GSE; ) is one of the largest Russian-language encyclopedias, published in the Soviet Union from 1926 to 1990. After 2002, the encyclopedia's data was partially included into the later ''Bolshaya rossiyskaya entsiklopediya'' (or '' Great Russian Encyclopedia'') in an updated and revised form. The GSE claimed to be "the first Marxist–Leninist general-purpose encyclopedia". Origins The idea of the ''Great Soviet Encyclopedia'' emerged in 1923 on the initiative of Otto Schmidt, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In early 1924 Schmidt worked with a group which included Mikhail Pokrovsky, (rector of the Institute of Red Professors), Nikolai Meshcheryakov (Former head of the Glavit, the State Administration of Publishing Affairs), Valery Bryusov (poet), Veniamin Kagan (mathematician) and Konstantin Kuzminsky to draw up a proposal which was agreed to in April 1924. Vasiliy Mantsev
Vasiliy Nikolaevich Mantsev ( Russian: Василий Николаевич Манцев; 1889 – 19 August 1938) was a Russian revolutionary and high-ranking official of the Cheka. Early career Mantsev was born in Moscow into a large family of Old Believers. His father was an office worker. He studied law at Moscow University, but did not graduate. He was active in the 1905 Revolution, joining the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1906. After several arrests he was sent into internal exile, but in 1911 he escaped from Vladimir to France, and was a pupil at the school for revolutionaries that Vladimir Lenin had set up in Longjumeau. He returned to Moscow illegally in 1913, and was again arrested and exiled to Vologda Oblast. In 1916, he was called up for the Imperial Army. Nikolay Antipov
Nikolai Kirillovich Antipov (russian: Николай Кириллович Анти́пов, 15 December 1894 – 29 July 1938) was a Soviet Union, Soviet politician. He was appointed Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union and elected member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1924–1937) and candidate member of the Orgburo (1924–1925, 1928–1930). He was executed during the Great Purge and rehabilitated posthumously. Biography Antipov was born on in the village of Lisichkino, Starorussky Uyezd, Novgorod Governorate, in the family of a peasant. Antipov trained as a fitter at a nautical technical school, and worked as a locksmith in a Saint Petersburg shipyard and in the Dynamo factory, Moscow. Dr. Nikolai Aleksandrovich Semashko (russian: Никола́й Алекса́ндрович Сема́шко; – May 18, 1949), was a Russian revolutionary, Soviet statesman and academic who became People's Commissar of Public Health in 1918, and served in that role until 1930. He was one of the organizers of the health system in the Soviet Union (often called the Semashko system), an academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences (1944) and of the Russian SFSR (1945). Vsevobuch
Vsevobuch ( rus, всевобуч, p=fsʲɪˈvobʊtɕ), a portmanteau for "Universal Military Training" ( rus, всеобщее военное обучение, r=vseobshcheye voyennoye obucheniye), was a system of compulsory military training for men practiced in the Russian SFSR governed by the Chief Administration of Universal Military Training of the People's Commissariat of Military Affairs. The first ''vsevobuch'' was urged by the 7th Congress of the Bolshevik Party. It took place de jure in March 1918 to fight the remnants of opposition to Soviet rule. Initially Vsevobuch engaged mainly the workers; from that summer, it also took poor peasants. Ippolit Sokolov's ''Sistema trudovoi gimnastiki'' was published in 1922.
