The Supercopa Centroamericana is an annual football match organized and contested by the reigning champions of the Costa Rican Cup and the Honduran Cup. The Unión Centroamericana de Fútbol (Central American Football Union), more commonly known by the acronym UNCAF, represents the national football teams of Central America: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. The Costa Rican Cup (''Torneo de Copa de Costa Rica'') is the top knock-out football tournament in Costa Rica which also serves as a qualification to the Supercopa Centroamericana. It was played for three seasons from 2013 to 2015. A 2019 edition was announced, with the winner earning a berth to the CONCACAF League, but it was ultimately abandoned. Honduran Cup
The Honduran Cup was the top knock-out football tournament in Honduras. The first tournament was played in 1968, four years later the second tournament took the name ''Copa Presidente'' ( en, President's Cup) in honor of Dr. Ramón Cruz; later, General Oswaldo López changed the name and called it ''Copa Jefe de Estado'' ( en, Head of State Cup). Twenty years later the third tournament was played. From 1992 to 1994, the Cup tournament was played as a separate tournament from the league (played from June to August). From 1995 to 1999, the winner of the first stage of the league tournament was declared Cup champions. In 2015, the tournament was yet again re-launched and re-branded as ''Copa Presidente''. 2014 Costa Rican Cup
The 2014 Costa Rican Cup (known as ''Copa Popular'' for sponsorship reasons) is the 2nd staging of the Costa Rican Cup. The competition began on July 12 and finished on August 10 with the final at the Estadio Nacional. The Cup featured 16 teams, including 12 from the FPD (including the newly promoted team AS Puma Generaleña), and 4 from the Liga de Ascenso (not including the recently relegated team, Puntarenas). The tournament marked several differences compared to its predecessor. A Group Stage was added, with the first placed teams of each group qualifying to the Semi-Finals. The tournament saw Cartaginés defeating defending champions Saprissa in the final to achieve their first Costa Rican Cup. 2015 Honduran Cup
The 2015 Honduran Cup was the 10th staging of the Honduran Cup and the first edition since 1998. Club Deportivo Olimpia are the defending champions. The 2015 Honduran Cup is referred to as the Copa Presidente de Honduras for sponsorship reasons. The cup is a creation of the Honduran government funded by money allocated to national security fund. Its purpose is to support the growth of sport to detract the youth from vices and to promote national tourism for rural towns. The cup was contested by 64 teams from the top 3 divisions of the country. There was a total of 10 teams from La Liga Nacional (First Division), 27 from Liga de Ascenso (Second Division) and 27 from Liga Mayor (Third Division).
