''Super Champon'' is an album by the Japanese punk rock band Otoboke Beaver, released by Damnably on 6 May 2022. It is the band's first full studio album featuring all new songs, rather than fully or partially compiling songs from previously-released EPs and rarities. Background The album was preceded by the singles "Dirty Old Fart Is Waiting for My Reaction" and "I Am Not Maternal". According to the band, the word ''Champon'' in the album's title refers to their mixing of genres, while the word "is a Japanese noun meaning a mixture or jumble of things of different types... It also sounds like Champion." The song "I Put My Love to You in a Song JASRAC" is a reference to the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers. The songs "I Am Not Maternal" and "I Won't Dish Out Salads" are both commentaries on the social demands placed on Japanese women. Otoboke Beaver
is a Japanese punk rock band from Kyoto, formed in 2009. The band currently consists of singer Accorinrin, guitarist Yoyoyoshie, bassist Hirochan, and drummer Kahokiss. Their most recent album '' Super Champon'' was released in May 2022. Biography Otoboke Beaver is named after a love hotel in Osaka which was located near the high school of one of the band members. The band formed in 2009 while the members were active in a rock music club at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto. The original members included Accorinrin on vocals, Yoyoyoshie on guitar, Pop on drums, and Nishikawachi on bass. In June 2011, Otoboke Beaver released a demo CD featuring three songs, including an early version of "Chuchu Song", a live track that would be later re-recorded and distributed to people who helped fund the band's first trip to the United States. Damnably
Damnably is a small independent record label and music publisher based in London, England, which also organises live events and tours for its roster of acts. History The label was founded in 2006 by George Gargan, of the band Former Utopia. He was later joined by filmmaker Janice Li. The label's first release was a single by Former Utopia, and its first high-profile signing was Shonen Knife. The label has specialized in signing international bands, particularly from Asia. Gargan and Li were married in the late 2010s, and several Damnably artists released songs to commemorate the event. ''Itekoma Hits'' is an album by the Japanese punk rock band Otoboke Beaver, released by Damnably on 26 April 2019. The album features newly-recorded songs alongside tracks from the previously released EPs ''Bakuro Book'' (2016) and ''Love Is Short!!'' (2017). The album's release was preceded by the single "Anata Watashi Daita Ato Yome no Meshi" which is also included on the album. Reception ''Itekoma Hits'' received generally positive reviews from critics. AllMusic critic Heather Phares praised the band "for making their pummeling attacks sound both furious and gleefully liberated" and noted that the newly-recorded tracks "add more detail and sophistication" to the band's sound.
