Julian Cope
Julian David Cope (born 21 October 1957) is an English musician and author. He was the singer and songwriter in Liverpool post-punk band the Teardrop Explodes and has followed a solo career since 1983 in addition to working on musical side projects such as Queen Elizabeth, Brain Donor and Black Sheep. Cope is also an author on Neolithic culture, publishing ''The Modern Antiquarian'' in 1998, and a political and cultural activist with a public interest in occultism and paganism. Fried (album)
''Fried'' is the second solo album by Julian Cope. Background ''Fried'' was released on 9 November 1984, just six months after Cope's first solo album '' World Shut Your Mouth''. Cope retained the guitarist Steve Lovell and the guest oboe player Kate St. John from the previous album, but added his Drayton Bassett musical foil Donald Ross Skinner on rhythm and slide guitars, the former Waterboys drummer Chris Whitten and, on one track, the former Mighty Wah! guitarist, Steve "Brother Johnno" Johnson. The album was much more raw in approach than its predecessor. In many respects, it prefigured the looser and more mystical style which Cope followed and was praised for in the following decade. Notoriously, the sleeve showed a naked Cope crouched on top of the Alvecote Mound slag heap clad only in a large turtle shell. Chris Whitten
Chris Whitten (born 26 March 1959) is a British session drummer who provided drums for the hit singles "What I Am" by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, "World Shut Your Mouth" by Julian Cope and "The Whole of the Moon" by the Waterboys. Two notable projects that Whitten was the drummer for were Paul McCartney's ''Flowers in the Dirt'' album in 1989, and Dire Straits’ final world tour from 1991–1992 to accompany their last studio album, ''On Every Street''. In Italy he is well known for playing drums with Francesco De Gregori on some tracks of the album ''Titanic'' (1982), on eponymous album of Riccardo Cocciante, on album '' Yaya'' of Nino Buonocore and on single 45 rpm ''Uno su mille'' of Gianni Morandi. Donald Ross Skinner
Donald Skinner is a guitarist, songwriter and producer primarily known for his work with Julian Cope. Skinner is commonly known by the name Donald Ross Skinner with the addition of the middle name of ''Ross'' attributed to him by Cope after Glenn Ross Campbell, the pedal steel player from The Misunderstood. He is currently a guitarist for Love Amongst Ruin and DC Fontana. Pre-Cope career Skinner played in a number of Tamworth bands including The Fretz, DHSS (named after the Department of Health and Social Security) and Freight train.
