Sunnyside Up
''Sunnyside-Up'' was a black and white weekly variety program produced at HSV-7 Melbourne, during the late 1950s until the mid 1960s. Surviving Kinescope episodes sometimes presented the title in three words as “Sunny Side Up“ and with a 3-letter acronym. Synopsis The program has its genesis as a TV version of the popular radio variety program ''The Happy Gang'' on sister radio station 3DB. The first TV edition of ''The Happy Gang'' appeared on HSV-7 on 30 August 1957 at 9.30pm and broadcast every Friday. From 23 May 1958, under the direction of producer Alf Spargo, the program was revamped with a refreshed line-up and a new title, ''Sunnyside Up''. Original ''Happy Gang'' cast members Dick Cranbourne and John Stuart were dropped from the revamped show. ADS is an Australian television station based in Adelaide, South Australia. It is owned and operated by Paramount Networks UK & Australia through their Australian holdings Network 10. History ADS-10 began as ''ADS-7'' on 24 October 1959. In the late 1980s ADS-7 was bought by media entrepreneur Kerry Stokes, who also owned CTC-7 in Canberra. In 1987, Stokes planned to buy the Seven Network from John Fairfax which would have seen ADS-7 Adelaide and CTC-7 Canberra align with ATN-7 Sydney and HSV-7 Melbourne. Stokes offered $100 million more than rival Christopher Skase for Seven, but was ultimately unsuccessful. ''The Penthouse Club'' was an Australian weekly variety program produced live to air from the studios of HSV-7 Melbourne from 10 October 1970. It was originally hosted by Michael Williamson (also a football commentator for HSV) and comedian Mary Hardy. Production ad synopsis The program, screening each Saturday night from around 8.30 pm (the starting time varied over the years depending on HSV-7's Saturday night VFL football commitments), was a mix of comedy, light entertainment and live coverage of harness racing from the RAS Showgrounds and, later, Moonee Valley racecourse. Logie Awards Of 1962
The 4th Annual TV Week Logie Awards were presented on Saturday 31 March 1962 at the Chevron Hotel on St Kilda Road, Melbourne. The awards presentation was telecast live in a half-hour broadcast on ABV-2, (The ABC's Melbourne station), with delayed transmission on ABC stations in other cities over the following days. Gerald Lyons from the ABC was the Master of Ceremonies. Game show host Bob Dyer was on hand to present awards. Winning the Gold Logie was a joint honour that year with entertainer Tommy Hanlon Jr and variety host Lorrae Desmond, winning the coveted award, in doing so, Desmond was the first woman on Australian television to win the Gold. The Logie Awards (officially the TV Week Logie Awards; colloquially known as The Logies) is an annual gathering to celebrate Australian television, sponsored and organised by the magazine ''TV Week''. Helen Maxine Reddy (25 October 194129 September 2020) was an Australian-American singer, actress, television host, and activist. Born in Melbourne to a showbusiness family, Reddy started her career as an entertainer at age four. She sang on radio and television and won a talent contest on the television program ''Bandstand'' in 1966; her prize was a ticket to New York City and a record audition, which was unsuccessful. HSV-7
HSV is a television station in Melbourne, Australia. It is part of the Seven Network, one of the three main commercial television networks in Australia, its first and oldest station. It launched in time for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne. HSV-7 is the home of AFL coverage. The HSV building (also known as 'Broadcast Centre Melbourne') was the network's operations hub, where the Master Control Room was located, controlling all metropolitan and regional feeds. Programming lineup, advertisement output, feed switching, time zone monitoring and national transmission output was previously delivered there. All Seven Network owned and operated studios had their live signals relayed there: for instance, ATN's output was fed to HSV and then transmitted via satellite or fibre optics to towers around metropolitan Sydney.
