''The Sun of the Sleepless'' ( ka, უძინართა მზე ''Udzinarta mze'', "Sleeping sun") is a 1992 Georgian drama film directed by Temur Babluani. It was entered into the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Silver Bear for outstanding artistic contribution. The film had been directed since 1985 until 1992. The film was translated into several languages through dubbing as well as subtitling. Catchphrases and a soundtrack (more precisely melody which is a leitmotif of this film) of the film are very widespread among Georgian people. Occasionally vulgar words occur in the film. The director has dedicated the work to his father, who is also a doctor. Plot The film is about a doctor named Gela Bendeliani (Elgudzha Burduli) and his wealthless family in Tbilisi in Soviet Georgia. Temur Babluani ( ka, თემურ ბაბლუანი) (born 20 March 1948) is a Georgian film director, script writer, and actor. Bebluani was born in the mountainous Svanetian village of Chaguri in the Georgian SSR. He graduated from Tbilisi State Theater Institute in 1979, being tutored by Tengiz Abuladze and Irakli Kvirikadze. He performed in the Soviet-era movies ''Our Youth'' (ღიმილის ბიჭები, 1969), ''Earth, This Is Your Son'' (მშობლიურო ჩემო მიწავ, 1980), and ''Cucaracha'' (კუკარაჩა, 1982); and directed ''The Flight of Sparrows'' (ბეღურების გადაფრენა, 1980), and ''The Brother'' (ძმა, 1981). Lika Kavzharadze ( ka, ლიკა ქავჟარაძე, 26 October 1959 – 11 October 2017) was a Georgian film actress best known for her role in Tengiz Abuladze's 1976 drama film ''The Wishing Tree''. Born in Tbilisi, Kavzharadze was trained as a pianist at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, from which she graduated in 1973. In 1972, she was invited by the Kartuli Pilmi studio and starred in several films, most notably as Marita in the award-winning ''The Wishing Tree'' directed by Tengiz Abuladze in 1976. She was found dead, at age 57, at her own apartment in Tbilisi on 11 October 2017. Police officials said they were looking into possible suicide. Georgian (, , ) is the most widely-spoken Kartvelian language, and serves as the literary language or lingua franca for speakers of related languages.
